Ciclosporin..advice please
« on: June 30, 2009, 10:31:08 PM »
I have just started on this drug yesterday and I have stared with a sore throat. In the leaflets it says to contact your Dr immediatly if this occurs. Is this serious or can it wait until the morning?

I feel dreadful this morning. I have just spoke to the receptionist and she said that the Dr said that the sore throat will unlikely be related! I am not happy as it does say this could be a problem, and it seems a bit of a coincidence that it started within a day of takeing it. The Dr does not like me very much (lol, hubbie came in with me the other day and said the atmosphere between the pair of us was awful), and just sees me as a whittering pain. So I have just rang the consultants secretary and she is going to email the consultant to see what I should do.
I had stomach pains the first day however they went. Iam on 75mg twice a day (I am only small, thats why my dose is so low).
Glad you are feeling good on it, hopefully I will too soon. I have been trying to get out in the sun to help it as well (skin proberly gone into shock as it has never really seen much sun before ;D)
Fingers crossed for both of us.
x

Hi. I started taking cyclosporin in November 2006 and finished taking it in March 2009. Did it clear me? Yes totally - 99% clear. For the first time, I could wear shorts and t-shirts, and date again. This was important as I'd just separated. The first week or so, I remember having a headache, but considered this not important, as I was clearing pretty quickly. I cleared within 2 weeks. Remember that cyclosporin is a strong immune suppressant, and was originally used for organ transplant patients so they wouldnt reject the new organs. The side effects are many, but mainly (for me) was high blood pressure - i was constantly at 140/90 and was then prescribed blood pressure tablets, which made me feel rough. I was on 200mg in the morning and 200mg in the evening, but eventually found a comfortable level at 150mg am and 150mg pm. I had to stop using it because I was very ill at the start of 2009 and put that down to the cyclosporin. You may also get bleeding gums.

Overall, its worth it, as its a blessing to be clear. I felt completely normal (on the outside) again. However, it affected my health. The upshot is that cyclosporin is like putting a plaster on a cut that never heals. Its temporary.

I am feeling worse, I have had to cancel a night out (those are rare so it feels very unfair).
My throat is still the same and I have pains in my neck, back, legs and feet and one side of my face is on fire. These all might not be related, who knows.
I will persist until I hear back from the dermie.

I took a sleeping tablet not long after my last post as I felt so rotten I just needed to sleep it off. I have woken up and feel no better. The pharmacist, my sister and the Dr all said it is not related and to keep on with the tablets, so I have. It proberly is jut a coincidence.
I have to get myself going however just getting from room to room seems like an effort. It will just be a rotten cold, but need to motivate myself as I have things to do today.
Life is pants ;D
