Cling film!
« on: December 05, 2011, 11:42:18 PM »
I do realise this may have been mentioned before, but I have had a new discovery of using clingfilm around my limbs over dovobet/moisurising cream as I sleep, and it makes the treatment more effective as it does not rub off as much with movement. I suggest this to anyone who thinks their ointments are not particularly effective, as I did. Do consult your GP incase there is a medical reason that this would not be advisable.

As far as i am aware putting cling film over after moisturiser is fine... it shouldn't be done with any of the steroids, such as dovobet, though

You are correct.  I used to do this years ago when my legs were covered, but just using moisturiser.

It is called under occlusion and before cling film they used to wrap my arms in plastic ( in the 1960's ) with betnovate underneath.
Yes it cleared the skin quick but the consequence has been skin thinning, a risk with over use of steroids.

So I would NOT use Dovobet beneath the cling film.

Try it with moisturisers but only use it with Meds with the advice of your GP or Derm

I love'd doing cling film  :o

but I did once with diprobase and couldn't work out why it kept getting worse....turned out I was allergic to the stuff!!!

I did read in a book a while ago that it's unwise to use cling film wraps on large area's of P as it can make you more at risk from some bacterial infections due to so much skin becoming "wet" and more exposed!!

Good luck, but I echo what the others say, go easy on the dovobet

I did think that there might be a reason why it wouldn't be good to do it with steroids so thank you very much for clarifying it for me! Thanks for the feedback :)

i used to use bandages instead of clingfilm, same result but the bandages allow the skin to breathe whereas the clingfilm doesnt

I do this with cling film and I use Dovobet too. I know you shouldn't, but it hasn't done me any harm and it makes my skin smooth for a few days.

You may not notice the effects of skin thinning for a while could even be years. I do know that is worth trying a moisturiser/baby oil/aromatherapy blend etc instead and see if gives as good results.

Steroids are good at reducing inflamation quickly in the short term and I believe this is the best way to view them. For the longer term it is best to try and find an alternative to them.
