cyclosporin v methotrexate
« on: December 06, 2011, 10:49:29 AM »
hi there, i'm a newbie but sadly not to P. I've had it for 24 years. I've been on mtx for quite a while but it didnt suit me so my derm has changed me over to cyclosporin. I start it today. Has anyone been on mtx and changed to C? Were the side effects easier to handle?
Hope to get to know you all over the coming weeks.  :)

I dont think you will regret going on the ciclo, you may get some tiredness at first but that will go after a couple of months and it is usually faster working than metho. I had nearly 3 years of clear skin until it started to be not so effective and i started getting bad headaches

thanks for yr replies. Sounds very positive and i'm so glad its worked for you both. I guess i'm wary of starting it as its going to be a daily dose instead of weekly mtx and with mtx, the first few days each week were terrible.  I'm a mum so being stuck on the loo as well as being wiped out and being sick was very inconvenient!!

I'm prepared as much as i can be, i just hope it suits me better than mtx as i'm pretty much covered just now.

thanks again!  :)

dont worry, you are unlikely to feel like that. Feeling pretty wiped out was the thing that got to me a bit but i was at the time trying to do a full time job plus a part time job and socializing too, once i stopped beating myself up about trying to keep up all those things it was much better and then after a couple of months i noticed i felt much more energised and even took up running and swimming as well  :)

My experience of Cyclo was very good and relatively quick acting, I was amazed with the results :) Whereas MTX can take longer to work.   As Arizona has stated this drug does come with side effects that can make you feel tired/wiped out nausia etc, this faded after a few weeks/month or two and didn't notice it much after that. Try to relax whenever you feel that way, I know it may be hard with a young family though. Make sure you have regular bloods and BP taken, the derm should advise you anyway.

Good luck

thanks stevie  :)

so far so good. I'm taking 150mg a day and took my first dose last night. Taking it at night so any side effects i can hopefully sleep off. But apart from feeling a bit icky this morning which wore off after my breakfast, i feel ok  8)
