Desperately seeking advice on DOVOBET USE IN CHILDREN
« on: December 20, 2011, 11:48:53 PM »
Hi there. My 12 yo daughter has been diagnosed with guttate p. Acute, first time flare up from nowhere in the last week. G.P. prescribed Dovobet plus usual emollients. Being a nurse, I'm aware this is fairly potent stuff, but really unhappy to learn from info leaflet that Dovobet not licensed or recommended in under 18s. I'm not comfy using it on her, particularly given it's primarily on her chest and neck. Also on face; G.P. failed to note this or comment on suitability of Dovobet on face. Am I being paranoid thinking I should not use it and go back to G.P? Should she even have prescribed it? Just want to do the right thing for my girl; read lots about rebound/side effects. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks a million.

From my point of view....which may not echo others....I think you are making the right choice.  I have beend using this on and off for 10 years and the rebound is quite severe.  You become dependent on it.  I was told to stop all steroids after only a year because of complications and ended up on ice packs for 5 days because of the side effects. I do use this now but only every 3 days (but that is because of meds aswel).  It is a good cream but if this is your daughters start of her psoriasis journey I personally wouldnt go down the dovobet route......and definatly not on her face. I hope you can find some treatment that may help.  Good luck. x

I am most surprised this has been prescribed , never should be used on the face, thins the skin and causes terrible rebounds wherever it is used (however carefully weaned off in my case and many others)

There seems to be an awful lot of docs doling this out at the drop of a hat without even any advisory of only using very thinly and not getting on any normal skin

I would of thought Dovonex ointment would have been more suitable for a 12 year old and protopic for the face maybe? yes i think a visit back to the doc or can you see another doc in the practice?

Thanks, that's really helpful. It just felt a bit full on to wade in with the big guns at this stage. No advice given at all on usage - I recall my parents putting cream on me with a cotton bud to save their fingers and minimise spread! Put a call in to GP today and we're going back. Praying it will be a flash in the pan due to stress of moving school; hate seeing her in such a pickle.  :( Thank you again. Happy Christmas. x

Best of luck to your daughter.  I have had f;air ups and then had full clearance after so hopefully it will be the case for her. x

Hi Parsnip,

I agree with the other advice and would like to add that it was my understanding that Dovobet was for the treatment of Plaque P and not Guttate.

Regards,

Daryl

I used to have more flakes than Kellogg's

Thanks delbee, that's kind. It's a bit of a shock when it comes as a bolt from the blue isn't it?
Daryl, that was my understanding too...another point to raise tomorrow! The spread continues.......scalp now driving her to distraction. Anybody had any joy using aloe vera products? Someone suggested we try the gel.
All the best everyone.
xx

I have tried quite a few natural things but with no luck but I know of someone who swears by goats milk products....he has had full clearance from using them.  Unfortunatley we are all different so maybe experiment with a few different things.  Hope you find something which works or at least helps. x
