Dithranol
« on: February 14, 2006, 10:03:04 PM »
Hi all

No-one seems to be commenting on Dithranol on this forum.  I found this helped me quite alot although it was very messy.  Just wondered if anyone else out there has tried it??  I thought it was one of the popular ones, obviously not.  Does anyone know how safe it is??

Also while i'm here, just wondering myself about the Dead Sea, bet it costs loads to go there doesn't it???

i had dithronal years ago at home and in hospital!

It can be pretty lethal stuff and if it gets on your good skin in burns and I have to go up different strengths every so many days and I ended up very purple!

Had long contact Dith in hospital, took 5 weeks but at end of it skin was clear for the first time in 2 years.  It does burn and blister good skin, so be careful!

Hi Rachel,  I have used dithranol too in the past.  It was very effective.  The drawbacks though are how time consuming and very messy this treatment is.

I persevered, and it worked well, but with total guttate coverage it was my whole evening gone, every evening  :(

Have used dithro type creams in the past. At the mo my p is too extensive to make it a viable option.
Lady Superior Scruff - apparently

I think Dithranol should be withdrawn from the market. It burns, it stains and it's only application is to remove scales. It may help in exposing new skin but it does'nt aid repair. Plus it's a very time consuming short term fix. Considering the man hours required applying this stuff surely the cost of it cannot be relative. Finally, my experience of it was some 16 years ago - I can't believe it is still in use ! Ditch Dithranol !!

One of our members - Ady - has a guttate falre pretty much every year and he swears by Dithranol.  Its very time-consuming to apply but it does the trick for him.  Horses for courses I guess.

Horses for courses is right, but that said I would not hesitate in having the treatment again.  I have had the treatment in hospital on a day ward, and its so relaxing and de-stressing which helps with the P alone.  Ok it is messy, it is difficult to scrub off (like paint)  and if it hits good skin it will burn and stain, but it worked wonders for me and will no doubt be having it again this year sometime. :)
