Dovobet / Dovonex / Cold Cream / Moisturising Advice
« on: December 12, 2011, 10:11:51 AM »
Long time sufferer of P. Hands, elbows, Kness, ankles. Now spreading to back, face, legs. I cope with it, but hate it, as i know we all do.

However, very lazy with the creams. Doctor has given me Dovobet for years, I hate it as it is so sticky and use it in and out. Now determied to use it regularly as now gets sore, if I knock bleels like hell and if I get cold on golf course also cracks and hurst like hell.

Questions are:

have read about Dovonex, is this on pescription and shoudl i ask for that and alternate that with Dovobet?
have read should moisturise. I currently use E45, which doesn't seem good. Any suggestions?
Have read C is this Ponds Cold cream? Where can I get it?

Finally did anyone lese see Food hospital? Any thoughts

Sorry as I am sure this stuff has been posted elsewhere

I've sort of developed my own creaming schedule which I'm trying hard to stick to but it is hard!

What I do is have a quick shower then use light dabs of dovonex on the worst/most visble spots (currently my hands) then on most of the rest of my skin I use either E45 or Aqueous Cream and make sure I use a generous helping on the bits that would normally bleed which are my elbows and ankles.

I also try (And sometimes fail) to not scratch my legs but instead cream them up.

It's a major headache and I always have to carry some cream with me but it as stopped the cracking and bleeding. If I stop my regime then my skin drys out and cracks within a couple of days.

You use Dovonex and not Dovobet? Why is this?
Do you have to get Dovonex from the doctor?

Creaming schedules are nightmares, I am what I percieve to be a typical bloke and just don't normally (well didn't) do those sorts fo things?

How do you find the E45 compared to the acquaious cream. Do be honest I use E45, purely as it absorbes easier and doesn't make a mess of clothes, thicker creams cause alsorts of mess

I've got Dovonex and Dovobet. Dovonex as a cream and dovobet as an ointment. I don't use the dovobet that much because it's got steroids in it and last time I tried a steroid cream it cleared up the psoriasis perfectly then I got 'steroid rebound' where it came back with a hell of a vengence. I'll use the dovobet if I get a really nasty patch.

Dovobet and Dovonex are both on perscription I'll probably go see my GP for a new dovonex perscription.

Yes, it's a pain having a creaming schedule but better that than having my skin crack and bleed. The people I work with are very understanding which is a bonus.

One thing I'll add - I also cream up prior to going out in this cold - anything to protect my skin and at home I make sure any heating isn't directed onto my skin.

I play golf and in the cold my hands hurt like hell. Even in summer if it is raining and temperature drops a few degrees, can get really painful, Being all 'creamy' tends to play havoc with the grip!

Also I notice in winter that I feel the cold much more. I assume this is to do with the p on my body? Does anyone else suffer with this?

Interesting you say about people around you understanding. I think one positive I have is that I dn't show that I care whatever people think at that means that most people accept me for what I am and what I look like. Underneath I do care and when you see someone staring at your hands it both irritates and annoys the hell out of me. I would rather people asked than stare and turn thier nose up. That said I soon get on with it and carry on with life.

Been a member here for a year or so. Must stop by more often. The idea's I have read are great and if I can get it under control it has to improve life. For too long now I have just accepted it and now I'm going to do something about it

Hi Shaun,
I also have Dovobet but tend only to use it when things flare up badly as i dont like to overdo the steroid. I am also a little lazy on the creaming up front. In the summer my work means i spend alot of time in swimming pools and the chlorine plays hell with me and the soles of my feet can crack and bleed which is really painfull. when this happens i smother my feet with Aquaeous cream and then put socks on b4 i go to bed .It helps me alot. Couldnt you do the same with surgical gloves the night b4 you play golf?
I also use Aquaeous as opposed to E45...E45 seems to irritate my p.
Regards,
Ian

Hi Shaun.....I use dovobet and dovonex....dovonex morning and night and dovobet when the flaring gets bad.  I use E45 cream once a day and I use it instead of shower gel so I can just whack a load on without feeling greasy after.  All of the creams are availible on prescription which you can get a pre-payment certificate for (if you are in UK)....which works out much cheaper.

hi

i've tried both dovobet and dovonex and i couldnt get on with them. They made my normal skin sore. As for moisturising, yes its easy to become very lazy as its such a chore!! I use Aveeno which my derm gave me on prescription. Its really soothing.

Thanks everyone, really helpful stuff here. I get the impression the P game is about trying things to see if they work for you, as everyone seems different, which is really wierd. As I said earlier have always just accepted my condition, but that recent Food Hospital programme with the little boy has made me think I don't have to accept.

Having a community like this feels like a real good thing!

Wish me luck, going to try Dovonex and had spoken to the Doctor to get some!
