Dovobet - finally something works!
« on: February 01, 2012, 11:49:17 AM »
I just wanted to share my discovery of Dovobet (prescription only). Having had psoriasis for many years, I returned to the doctor last month after a recent bout on the back of my neck / scalp had been going on for over a year and showed no sign of abating... I perhaps should have gone back to the doctor earlier, but just assumed that the treatments I had been using were as good as it got. I have tried, over the years, many different medications (Betnovate, Eumovate, Dovonex etc etc), but this was the first time the doctor prescribed a duel-action medication - it has calcipotriol (as in Dovonex) and betamethasone dipropionate (a potent corticosteroid, as in Betnovate) - and within a week it had cleared it up! It may not work for everyone, but I would suggest to other sufferers that you a) go back to your doctor even if you think you have tried everything, b) try a dual-action medication (tackling skin-cell production and inflammation at the same time). I know it's not rocket-science, but I could have carried on using one medication or another and just didn't realise that a combination approach would do the trick. Good luck! :)

Hi, welcome aboard! Just be careful when you stop Dovobet as if you stop quickly you can get a rebound flare. You need to wean yourself off of it slowly!

I wouldn't touch Dovobet with a 10 foot barge poll.  Oh yes it clears up your psoriasis within a few days. But then it rebounds ten times as bad as it was.  I blame what 4 consultant dermatologists and countless derm nurses have called the most aggressive psoriasis they have ever seen on prolonged use of Dovobet before I got wise.  Beware!

I wish that I had never used this, but then I wasn't given any instructions on exactly how to use it. Please see the following link:

After you "got wise" what did you use---was/is it successful.

Many thanks to all for the helpful advice on Dovobet - much appreciated. It looks from other posts that this is a product with very mixed success, which in some cases has made things much better and in others much worse. I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't worked for some of you who have replied and that you have had some bad experiences following its use - poor you! Although I am currently enjoying the relief it has given me after a year of frustration with other medication (the good side!), I am now forewarned of the ill effects you have obviously suffered yourselves (the bad side), and will be cautious about its continued use. I still maintain that for some people another visit to the doctor and a new approach may be beneficial, as it has been so far for me, whilst obviously being mindful to treat the use of all prescription drugs with care.

I've used just about everything, and nothing has been successful.  The only treatment that works for me is coal tar when I go into hospital.

I think it all comes down to the doc that prescribes it. I was on it years ago and used it every day for 2 years, only when I moved and changed doctor was I told this was very bad, AND, unfortunately the reason I had developed very deep stretch marks on my legs. If used properly I'm sure this stuff could do good for some people. For me, as I said, I had to use daily and that only gave slight relief.

Its really good to see you have found something that works, every time I hear someone who has found their relief, makes me more sure that I will find my own relief soon  ;D

Hi.

good luck with it but I completely echo those who have sai dbe careful with it!

Nobody ever told me to come off it slowly until way after the event... clears up in a few days no doubt, but 100% comes back with a vengeance...

please be careful with it.
