Facial flare
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:43:32 PM »
Hi all

I'm having the worse facial flare since I developed this condition 3 years ago.  My whole face (usually just eyebrows and nose) has flared.  It feels like my skin is on fire, itching and extremely sore to the touch.  I look like a balisha beacon with the white scales growing at an alarming rate.  My ears have copped for it too, inside, outside and going up into the scalp (which is already covered in P) I have noticed that all my other plaques elsewhere are bigger, scalier and purple.

Iv tried moisturising constantly, even adding a little steroid.  Iv tried protopic and eumovate and nothing is working.

I have recently been diagnosed as diabetic and my control is non existent, think I may have to start insulin soon as my sugars are running between 12-22.

Does anybody have any advice?  Any other meds I could try?

Thanks

I'm really sorry,  I don't really know what to suggest.   I very rarely get it on my face.  The odd time I do I used hydrocortisone ointment or betnovate RD but only for very short periods of time.

It sounds like your moisturiser may be irritating your skin too.   Have you tried changing that,  mind I realise during a flare would be a worrying time to try a new one :-\

I know it's very controversial to suggest,  but have you thought about trying a sunbed for a few mins a couple of time a week?

I hope you get on top of it soon  :-*

hi, sorry your suffering, my patches turn annually purple when its cold, (my hips legs and arms are very sore the last few days) and my nose, eyebrows, under eyes always get worse in winter. Eumovate is helping with the flakes, but still have lovely red blotches scattered around my face.

Hope it calms down soon

Apply wrightia-tinctoria. It costs little less than a pound in India. They call it by name "vetpalai thailam". Other market names include 777. It works well on face. I've used that for more than a year and keep the P off my face. It doesn't work well on other parts of the body though.

good luck

Hi there,

I have had P since birth and unfortunately I do tend to have flare ups on my face.

I don't use any over the counter creams or cosmetic moisturisers, only avocado or Jojoba oil.

Jojoba is especially good for the face. It is slightly astringent so it doesn't clog pores.

It's well worth giving a try. If Holland and Barrett don't stock it, you can find it on amazon.

Good luck.

Thank you all for your replies.  It has calmed down a little and not "shining" as it was before.  Still sore but nowhere near as noticeable.  :)

I get it on my face from time to time - used to be really bad but thnkfully only have small flare ups now & again at the moment.

Do you wear make up?! This obviously could be affecting your skin if you do. If you can go without make up - great. I still used to wear it & put up with the burning as I thought it hid my p from others but always used to remove it with a sensitive remover as soon as I got in the house & moisturised with E45 moisturising lotion as often as possible when not wearing make up. I found Almay foundations were kindest to my skin.

Hope this is helpful

I get bits of facial p around nose & eyes, it used to come & go but now its fairly perminant although trimovate sorts it after a few days  & then I'm good for about a week as long as I moisterise....BUT my face flaired up really badly a few weeks back, I kept applying double base & it just kept getting dryer, reder & and even more sore. Turned out this was not a flair up but the doublebase was causing it, I went back to vaseline intensive rescue & within a couple of days all was calm again with just my usual small bits of facial p. I can tollerate double base on my body but it wrecks my face...so yeah could seriously be your moisturiser, have you changed your moisturiser brand recently?
