Feet!!
« on: January 20, 2012, 09:21:44 PM »
Need some help guys and fast!

The soles and sides of my feet are very red and flaky, sometimes I can`t help it and pick at the skin - Sorry! resulting in them bleeding somewhat. My GP says look like I may have Pulstular Psoriasis. I do have sundrop psoriasis on about ten parts of my body. Spots about the size of a 10p piece.

I am hoping to go away abroad with some friends in ten weeks and im so worried about showing my feet in public, I don`t know what to do.

The doc has recently given me Dermovate to try, ive also tried Dovonex too. Can anyone reccomend something to try and make these feet look resonably presentable in ten weeks!  :-[

Thanks guys

Steve

Hi,

I think that you need to get yourself a referral to a Derm as soon as possible.

Did you really mean to say that your GP has given you Dermovate "to try"? I do hope that he has also given you very specific instructions on how to use it. If not then for goodness sake search this site for advice.

GPs appear to be dishing out Dermovate like there is no tomorrow but using it incorrectly can have very serious consequences.

Regards,

Daryl

Daryl, thanks for your reply mate.

No my GP just gave my the prescription and said see how you go! What advise can you give me ref dermovate?

I asked to be referred to a derm and my GP, said no, lets see how you go with this dermovate. I was a bit annoyed as my feet are in a bit of a mess.

Hi Steve,

Dermovate is a very potent corticosteroid and should only be used on small patches of affected skin and not for long periods. Certainly not for more that 4 weeks, and should be applied very thinly. Otherwise, it can cause permanent damage to the skin (as many on this site may attest to).

The most important thing is that if you use it, you have to wean yourself off it very slowly. Do not just stop. So if you are applying it twice a day, which I think is the recommended maximum dose, then you should reduce to once a day, then once every other day, then once every three days etc. Until you stop. I hope that you have got my drift

When most of us have used these topical treatments, we think "well it is only a cream, what harm can that do"? Well the answer to that question is LOTS.

Read the instructions and take care. And if you have any questions then get back to me.

Regards,

Daryl

Ello and welcome Stekelly01. I can fully sympathise as i too have had P on my feet. I got my GP to give me an emergency referral to the emergency Derm clinic at my local hospital. Can you not see another GP in the practise ?
I'm fully in agreement with Mullinde in what he says Dermovate thins the skin but sadly no one ( well very few Gp's ) will tell you that  >:(.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

I have palmoplanta psoriasis on my hands and feet, it started in September and has just got gradually worse. It was a reaction to Humira - which had been fantastic for psa, and got rid of my original plaque psoriasis completely.  Since October  I have been given increasingly strong steroid creams, and am waiting to see a dermatologist currently.  I found this site a few days ago, and it is great to have so many well informed people giving advice.  I have open, cracked skin on hands and feet which disturb my sleep, and make every day tasks difficult.  Reading the information on here has made me anxious about thinning my skin but if I stop using strong steroid creams, my hands and feet build up with thick hard skin, then split and bleed.
My rheumatologist is suggesting I take entenercept which will help the psa, and may reduce the new psoriasis.  Any suggestions? Advice?  thanks

I get a prescription cream that's a recipe my derm has been making up for years, so maybe you could ask your GP to duplicate it.

SAL AC 3% & LPC 10% IN WSP 50% AND EMULS OIN QTY 100.

There's no steroids in it, and it works like a charm.  You apply it thickly 2x a week, cover with socks and leave on for a couple of hours.

I've even used it on other hard to shift areas, and have found it works better than anything else I've tried.

My derm is Dr Peter Elliott from the Logan Skin Clinic in Brisbane Australia, if your GP wants to follow up on it.

Good Luck
When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you!
