Hello and Welcome Tony. :)

I used to get it on finger nails i was advised as you said to keep them short and file them also. I was put on a MILD steriod cream to rub in my nails this helped a lot and its allmost gone.

For some reason though my toe nails are worse though not falling off. I would speak to your derm again there must be something they can do other than strong drugs.

Hi Tony

I've got p under both my fingernails and my toenails and I'm getting laser treatment (Xtrac) at the moment to try to shift it.

The only time my toenails have 'lifted off the nailbed' has been when I've banged them during sport (toes meeting end of shoe in squash) but I know exactly what you mean about the embarrassment.  Mine look thick and yellowy and I've long since given up wearing open-toed sandals on the beach!

Good luck with whatever treatments you try and keep us posted of the results.  Nails are pretty hard to treat and take a lot of patience.  This is definitely the place to get decent advice from fellow sufferers though and my own hopes of recovery are pinned on a combination of Xtrac laser, jelly and Curcumin, all gleaned from these pages.

Bon courage!

sorry Tony it is the most difficult to treat, half of mine hanging off/split as I type.  There are some strong drugs that can help after several months but it is highly likely to come back once you cease taking.
