Fumaric Acid Esters
« on: June 08, 2004, 12:27:07 AM »
Has anyone heard of this?
I've just spent the last 10 days in hosp (came out yesterday) and have been talking to other patients about this new treatment.  Its apparantly licensed in Germany for use in psoriasis but not here.....yet and has had good results.
From what i've heard it's less agressive than cyclosporin, methotrexate, acitretin etc. The main side effects being gastric upsets (although to what extent i don't know).
As per, protocol has to be followed for the funding.
I'd love to hear if anyone's heard of this or even better tried it as fingers crossed, i'll be starting it later this year and if you do know about it are the results as good as i've heard???

Go to page 42 - this subject was raised 2 years ago and you will find 2 posts on this page. Can't say they will help you but there are a couple of links which you may find useful.

My own experience was that the drugs took so long to come from Germany and then to take effect that the P had got so bad I had to return to mtx to clear it. Never went back on it so cannot give you any good news.

Hope it works for you and you can speak German!!!

Hi NikiNakiNooo

Just seen your post and was wondering if you had started this treatment yet.  My derm wants me to start it but I was a bit put off cause he said that it can cause Menopausal type symptoms?

Let me know how you are getting on.

Thanks

Jackie
