Right!
So I had a word with my dermatology consultant and he told me not to go for abortion. He said, sperm count gets very low and it's pretty much impossible to get someone pregnant if you're taking MTX but then I somehow managed to prove that wrong. So he thinks we should go ahead with the pregnancy and hopefully it'll be a positive experience (I really hope he's right).
Wifey also had a discussion with a dermatologist at the hospital she works in and they said it is possible for a child to have defects or miscarriage and just said if we are prepared for the worst then we should go ahead.

She was pretty terrified and decided we do not want to take the risk and booked an appointment for yesterday morning for abortion but something changed her mind and now we have decided to go ahead with it and hoping for the best.
We have been referred for an early scan by our GP and will make sure we have extra scans and stuff with this baby.

I really appreciate all your help and guidance and I will definitely be back here for more advice in the future.

Thanks a lot once again
Irf

I'm glad your Dermatologist and your wife's work colleague managed to help you make an informed decision.  Every pregnancy comes with risks even when you think you are a healthy male/female genetics can get in the way and you might have to make similar decisions regarding abortion etc at a much later stage.  At least now your wife's s getting the support she needs with early scans.  I've got everything crossed that it goes well with you all x

Just want to tell you what happened to my sister at week nine in her pregnancy, last july 2010 my sister who was 40 at the time and had 2 older kids before she was diagnosed with MS decided she would try again as her MS was in long term remission and she was off all drugs. All was fine untill she woke in the middle of a night with severe abdominal pain and hubby took her to casualty, there began a serious of mistakes and errors that left her critically ill with an undiagnosed small bowel blockage that eventually had to be resolved by undergoing major surgery. It's hard to believe what happened in that hospital actually could nowadays but it did and at the time we didnt think she would live herself and could'nt imagine the pregnancy would survive but it did inspite of wound infection setting in and all the drugs, anesthetics, dehydration and poisioning that took place at week 9 had no effect on her baby who was born earlier this year perfectly normal and had a normal birth without even an epidural. He is now 7 months old, sitting up and when we look at him it's hard to believe he could be the same baby that we were looking at on a scrap of paper at 9 weeks gestation when we were certain all was lost at the time. Just want to wish you and your wife the best of luck for the future. Flowerfairy.

I'm in a similar position at the moment except that I am the one that is pregnant!  I was off 6 weeks before conception so obviously half the time.

I went to go see a specialist last week and he said they were cautiously optimistic.  I am now taking increased folic acid & I am going for a scan in a couple of weeks - 8weeks for dating.  I then need to make my decision of what I want to happen.  If I continue, I will be going to the fetal assessment unit for regular scans & will go early for an anomaly scan at 16weeks although he says that things could be missed as 20weeks is the optimal time.  Obviously the problem with carrying on with the pregnancy to wait for a 20 week scan means that if something is wrong, I will actually have to terminate the baby by an induced labour.

To be honest, I don't know how you & your wife are feeling at the moment but its just not seeming real to me at the moment & its such a ridiculously hard decision to make & even think about!

Anyway the reason I posted is just to let you know that you are not alone and if you ever need to chat in private please feel free to contact me.

I can totally relate to what you're saying and this is indeed a ridiculous decision. As I mentioned earlier, we decided to go ahead with it and hopefully it'll all be alright. Wife had some scans and blood tests baby looks normal but blood tests results are still to come.
I really hope things are ok with you and it turns out alright no matter what you choose.

Just wondered how you are getting along? I decided to continue with pregnancy and I am currently 14 weeks. So far the scans have not picked up on any abnormalities but the scans which will be able to identify are not until 18-20 weeks. I am going to a scan with consultant at 16 weeks which should show gross abnormalities. We have decided that if there is something wrong that we will terminate for medical reasons.

Sorry just wanted to update so as people in the same position have some answers as I know I never found information from people who were in our situation that showed the outcomes!

Hi and sorry for the late reply.
Everything is normal with us. We had an appointment with fatal medicine today, had a scan and talked to consultants. Everything is normal and consultants at fatal medicine, my dermatologist and everyone else have similar opinion. They're all saying that if man is taking mtx then it would damage the sperm which means, man on mtx won't be able to impregnate a woman...But in my case I was still able to impregnate my wife, which means my sperm wasn't damaged.

Long story short, if a man taking mtx impregnate a woman then it'd be normal. Just not when female is on mtx.

Hope it helps and good luck with everything.
