Hi Im New, And i need some advice please
« on: February 08, 2012, 03:02:28 PM »
Hi, Well I am 35yrs old, and for as long as i can remember i have had Psoriasis.. My dad has it quite bad, so it is just something that we grew up with.
I have tried the Tar treatments, although not for a few years.. I don't have the Psoriasis that is thick and scaly, mine is flat and small, but loads of spots of it, Most are around 10p size, but they are everywhere..
I guess im lucky in that they don't particularly itch, The spots never crack or bleed, they are just there.. And to be honest im not that bothered by them, however, i am beginning to think that i should start to be more aware of the treatments..
My GP last year prescribed me Dovobet, and i have been using that off and on since then, maybe once a week or fortnight, i know i should be more committed.. However i have been reading on the net that i shouldn't use this treatment as i am so covered in spots, its covering a lot more than 30% of my body, so i am wondering what type of treatment i should start to use?..
I have the double base moisturisers & use them...
I have been looking on the net for what feels like years, and i start to read one thing and then somewhere else tells me the opposite,
I also have bath treatments, but im trying to work out which is best, dead sea salt - surely this will dry the skin, and Oilatum - to lock in moisture...
How can 2 things which are opposite be both recommended??

Confused Regards
Kelly

hi, Kelly & Welcome
its a game of try and see what helps you.   what helps 1 does not mean it helps all
some peps  become tolarant/resistant to meds/topicals etc

ask your GP for a re-referral to see a derm and get a confirmed diagnoses IE what type of  p or types you have, ask  about what treatments are  available
have you tried nb-uvb light treatment  puva etc

hope you find a treatment that helps soon

Hi Kelly,

I agree with David. It sounds like you have guttate, and UVB treatment may be appropriate, but you need to get a referral to a Derm and get expert diagnosis and advice.

Daryl

Thank you I will make an appointment to see GP, and get refered.. My brother went for UVB therapy, and his psoriasis went almost completely... He doesnt have any commitments or responsibilities!.. (do i sound bitter & jealous! - Only joking!) The Hospital wanted him there for his treatment 3times a week, and sadly there is no way i could be there that frequently.. I will however keep lurking on here, and let you all know, when i get refered

Hi Kelly,

That is one of the drawbacks with UVB treatment. The programme is usually 3 time a week for 10 weeks. Rather disruptive!

Daryl
