My specialist also says absolutely fine to drink small amounts -absolutely no more than recommended weekly units, although I tend to just have 2-4 glasses of wine throughout the whole week. I also avoid anything for a couple days after taking mtx. I normally indulge quite a lot over the Christmas period so will miss that this year  ::)

Is there any herb that has been shown to help the body deal with the mtx? like folic acid or milk thistle?

Hi All,
I started MTX injections 4 weeks ago for PA but I have to admit my P is starting to flatten out and look less angry. I have had mild side effects, nauseous and headaches for about 24 hours after, and very tired for 48hours. I have been prescribed oral MTX about 3 years ago for P, but the side effects were awful, so I wasn't able to stay on it.

I take 5mg folic acid the day after my injection which is supposed to help with side effects.
I see the Derm on Tuesday and the Rheumy has written to Derm to ask if I can be put on Bio logic's in combination with MTX. So we'll wait and see.

I was told in no uncertain terms that I cannot drink alcohol while on MTX, and my own research backed that up. After being on it for a few months my derm said I could probably drink a unit or two a month, but then added that my blood work would reflect it and my GP would probably then refuse to prescribe it! I think it does vary from derm to derm and GP to GP, but for me it's just not worth the risk.

Just a newbie, started with mtx yesterday.
According to the info following mtx one shouldnt use folic acid same day and following day of taking mtx as it reduce the effect of mtx, but rest of week one can use it.
I use 20 mg mtx each week, didnt feel nausea after, should I use folic acid or avoid it totally since I dont have  that sideffect?
Btw folic acid was prescribed together with the mtx, but sounds like its only for sideffects. :-\
