Any help with scalp psoriasis?
« on: December 13, 2009, 06:12:50 PM »
I have had this recent bout of psoriasis since prob january 09. I have to take lithium which aggrivates psoriasis and since been on it gradually my whole scalp is covered.  I have more and more patches appearing on my body and face.

I was on betnovate and devanox nite about for a while along with calpasal shampoo.  did try t gel as well.

At the moment after having my thyroid removed, i am underactive which has made my skin extremely dry and I think it is making my psoriasis worse too.

My head is itchy as hell all the time, tight and sore.  It keeps me awake some nights.  I feel grosse as there is so much skin coming of my head.  My head actually feels like it is burnt. does anyone else get that

The doc suggested putting oil all over my scalp which i do once a week, but i feel im gettin nowhere.

It is really starting to get me down.  Due to my underactive thyroid and psyciatric meds i have put on 3 stone in a year.  my hair is falling out, my skin is dry.  I just feel such a mess.

So trying to tackle on thing at a time.  Does anyone have any advice of what to ask my doc for?

I did have light treatment before when i had it all over my body but had heard it doesnt work for scalp.

any advice would be welcome x

I used to have some stuff many years ago, had to wrap my head in clingfilm after putting the stuff on.

But sorry can't remember what it was, I'm sure someone here will have an answer for you soon.

P.S don't know how to put a link to it, but just noticed a thread that may interest you.

What's the alternative. Scalp psoriasis gone

I found Arachis Oil (Refined Peanut Oil ) is good for the scalp.

You leave it on over night then wash it out with a good shampoo in the morning. Use a fine tooth comb on it. A nit comb is ideal. Then give it a good brush.

You can get this from your G.P. or health food shops.

I used this when my scalp P was very bad or dry. I used to have scalp P very bad.

DONT USE if you have a peanut allergy.

You could also try T-Gel or Alphosyl Shampoo. You could also try Bettamouse shampoo which you can only get from your G.P. as it contains steroids. I used it once and have never looked back.

I use a cream that is a combination of coal tar solution and salicylic acid. Stinks to high heaven! I keep it in over night, and then wash it out in the morning with Polytar shampoo. I then use a head lice comb to, carefully, remove the flakes.
I get all of the above from the docs on prescription, and have found it very successful in keeping my scalp p under control.
