Hello, I have psoriasis all over my face  :-/

And I have just started a new college and making friends, explaining bout it and coping with the treatments is extrememly difficult.

I never had this before the Summer came this year. It just came on, I went to my doctors and he thought I might have it as some of my relatives have had it. He prescriped me this cream so I used it religiously and it went from my armpits and a few weeks ago it started to go from my eyebrow area but in the last week it has come on to nearly my all face.

I went back to my doctors and he prescribed me another ointment and antibotics because he thought it had became infected somehow? Also he is arranging a meeting with a dermotoglist.

I just need to wait for the chemist to open so I can get the recommended items. But how do cope when in public? I think I stick out like a sore-thumb and people stare.

I'm just wondering if anyone could help me with some techniques to cope in public and to evadicate the psoriasis from my face  :(

By the way good luck everyone with their treatment

Hi There

Sorry to hear that you're having such a c**p time with the p.

Going to the docs and getting referred to a specialist is a good idea.  P on the face can be really hard to cope with - I have it sometimes too.  I tend to use loads and loads of moisturisers at night to help keep the skin as smooth as possible.

You don't stipulate what kind of creams you are using but I have used some Alphosyl coal tar creamat night and that seems to help my skin - some people use a very mild steriod such as Eumovate  - but you should be careful with steroids on the face.

I also try to drink lots of water and get out into the sunlight too as this seems to alleviate the symptoms somewhat.
Perhaps the stress of starting the new college has also exacerbated the p for you.
I hope this is of some use.
Let us know how things go

All the best  - Guy   :)

Thank you very much for your reply :) It certainly has helped me. Do sunbeds help?

I was really looking forward to college. It is everything I thought it would be but it's like I have barrier when communicating with other new people.

Only about a week ago did it come on serious before it was just around my eye area and it looked like it was getting better then suddenly it came on all strong and their was not anything stressful which I can recall if anything it was coming to the weekend!

Anyway before I was using DiproBase which the doctor prescribed. At the start it didn't really do much then it came on stronger then it came better. Now I have been prescribed another ointment and antibotics, maybe because its been infected thinks the doctor.

I'm not sure the names I have to go to the doctor to get them, they was closed earlier and I'm just at home from college for a little while then I gotta go back :-/

I understand that stress can cause it and make it worse, but I haven't felt any stress for a long time.

Also, I was just wondering if say doing press ups and dumb-bells etc etc....effects it and in what way?

I heard that Retina-A can really help P on the face.

Can anyone who has used it tell me if it does any good and where I can get it from please?

Hi

I think we all can empathise with you over the feelings around how we think we look etc..be as confident as you can is my advice - certainly don't let it make you hole up in your room - get out there!

Diprobase is a moisturiser with no active ingredients - perhaps the new one will be stronger.

The sun is very good for my p - but you have to be careful not to burn obviously - also for some the sun makes their p worse - test it out.

I would say that lifting dumb bells or doing press ups has no negative effects at all - carry on exercising.

Good luck

You would have to see a derm for this.

Thank you for the encouragement and telling me that diprobase is a moisturiser, I didn't know. One things for sure these doctors don't explain a let do they?

Thats something I'll ask him/her :)

Even though I just joined today, I feel much better.

Thank you :D

I can totally understand your situation as i went to university. I get p on my face and it really annoys me, but most people say they don't even notice it. It gets worse in the winter then goes in the summer. Only on my face and in my hair though. I think i am lucky in that my colouring makes it harder to notice the p. My hair is blond-brown and when i am hot my skin goes a red colour anyway. My worst issue was talking to girls. I just became very paranoid that they would not like me when they foung out i had p. But i now know that many girls don't mind. And anyway i thino it looks worse than it actually is. At the moment i am doing a door to door job which means you certainly can't avoid people and will help with my confidence as i do find that in my situation p gives me a low sense of self esteem.

Yeah I know what you mean but talking to girls isn't that hard for me, in my class the majority I talk to are girls because none of the boys like the same things that I do and we don't have much in common, all of them are asian and I'm not, that makes a big difference, not that I'm racist, cos I'am not. Its just them boys like different things.

It is nice to know that someone has gone or going through the same thing that I'am going through, just to know I'm not the only one :)
