Hey guyz

Has anyone heard of Pimecrolimus &  tacrolimus, its supposed to have the effect of cyclosporin but without the side effects. I'ts going to be available in australia. Just wondering if anyone had any info in this drug. My derm said he will prescribe it for me as soon as its avaliable.

My good derm (have bad and good one) reckons that the tacrolimus group of drugs (although not tacrolimus specifically) will be the next breakthrough for us P people.  I think tacrolimus is a similar drug to cycolsporin but is small enough to penetrate the skin - apparantly there should be improvements to these creams making them easier to penetrate the skin.  As with cyclosporin they affect the immune system - but don't have the same side effects as this should only be topically - where it is needed

My derm also said that. He thinks picrolimus will replace cycloporin as it is less toxic and more effective.

I took part in a Pimecrolimus double blind trial nearly two years ago.  Except for the poor sods on the placebo I believe most of us did very well.  Personally I cannot enthuse enough about the oral drug (not the cream), my P nigh on totally cleared and the PA was remarkable in its remission.  I could not remember having felt so well, physically and mentally.  On ending the trial the bounce was most devastating as good health was taken for granted again, as one does for that is the natural state.  I can't wait for Pimecrolimus to become available as there were no side effects other than a feeling of warmth in the skin.  I was told that release is not imminent as further trials are ongoing.
