Scalp Treatments

My Derm. gave me a bottle of Dovonex Scalp Solution and I am using it twice a day, but wasn't told how long for. Has anyone had experience of using this? How long did you use it for - six weeks as recommended for the ointments, or less? Did it clear your p up? Can you use it for a few days at a time if the p flairs up again? Presumably it is not a good idea to use tar shampoos (eg T-Gel) at the same time?

My hair has got very thin, particularly at the temples. Any reassurance that it grows back when the p clears up would be welcome! It is also very dry and I was wondering about using Henna Wax treatment or perhaps, hot oil, but it all sounds rather messy! Any alternative suggestions?

Hi Sheila  :)

I used the dovonex scalp solution for a while and found it made some improvement. In terms of how long to use it, I don't think really there is any set time limit. P is diferent person to person, and what works for one may not for another. I would suggest you give it a good 'ol go - six weeks at least - and just see how it works for you. The improvement is often very gradual so you should just go on your instincts.

As for using the shampoo aswell, yup keep on with the T-Gel at the same time - every little helps!  ;)

Finally, if the dovonex doesn't help, don't fret! There are numerous other treatments out there - Betnovate and cocois are just two others I've tried. It's just a case of finding what suits you best.

Good luck!

Vix X  :)

Firstly Welcome AndyB and Sheilaw to the Forum

AndyB  I use Diprosalic as well, I only get trouble every now and again in scalp.  But a couple of days use of Diprosalic does the trick.

Hi,

Can you buy Diprosalic from the chemist or do you have to have a prescription?  I'm open to all new ideas for scalp.. everywhere else is pretty much under control at the moment.  I get paranoid everytime i wear a black top!

Hi, I think it contains a corticosteroid, so you would need a prescription. Check with your pharmacist.

I only kept up the Dovonex for a couple of weeks. I think it made things a bit better. Then the Dr who gave me an allergy test suggested I tried Cocois every other day for a week or two. Things are certainly better than they were!

My derm has now told me to use a bland shampoo, followed by Betnovate Scalp lotion - once a day! I forgot to ask how long for and my next appointment is in 4 weeks, but I think I'll try it for only a week or ten days.

It is probably a case of a little of what you fancy does you good. If only........

Hi Sheila,

I thought it actually said on the leaflet that comes with Dovonex that you have to use it for a certain length of time before you are likely to notice any improvement ???

Betnovate keeps my probs at bay, although I try hard to only use it when I really have to.  Oilatum shampoo is also the best one I have found - expensive, but (for me) worthwhile.

Good luck,

Nix

Hello,

Polytar is the one that works best for me.
