Suggestions for painful P on legs
« on: February 22, 2010, 09:17:53 AM »
Hi folks, I've not posted much on here so hope you can help.

I was on etenercept last year but after 6 months was taken off (i think due to NICE guidelines).  Despite being almost clear and feeling very happy I only got a about a months relief and the p is flooding back.

My lower legs are rather painful and i'm not sure what the best creams are to give me a bit of relief while I wait for my out-patient appt.  I've been using the betnovate/silkis combination but it's not the best.

Any ideas?

Hiya, sorry you didn't get much remission on the last treatment. The only things I've use are topicals and light treatment so I can't really advise anything about them, but I'm sure someone else will be able to. What else have you tried? I don't usually recommend Dovobet but in this case it might be the way to go. Your GP can prescribe this. If you do use it be very carefull when you stop using it, you must wean yourself off it gradually or you might have a bad rebound flare. other things that might help are keeping your moisturiser in the fridge, cool baths, carefull use of the sunbed (I know it's not good for you but it can help short term). I hope you get some relief soon. Please feel free to pm me if you want to talk. Good luck :-*

i have the same probs on the bottoms of my legs and the only way i can get any relief is to put my cream (i use diprobase) in the fridge for a couple of hours then smother my legs in it and wrap them in cling film...i feel stupid and probably look even sillier but it does ease it for an hour or so....

Thanks for all the replies folks.

I don't yet know when my appointment is but I'm speaking to my GP to try and get it as soon as possible.

I'm pretty sure I was only taken off Etanercept as it was my first 6 months on it and i fully expect to go back on it.  Looking through some other information on the internet it looks like this is the official clinical guidelines.

I'd been on Methotrexate before Etanercept and haven't used ointments for a long time.  What's people's thoughts on the best ointment for removing stubborn scales?

a high strenth salicylic acid

That's the one i was looking for.  Can't remember if it needs a prescription or are there any over the counter ones you can buy.
