site reaction experiences please
« on: March 10, 2010, 12:10:02 PM »
Hi guys, as many of you know I've been on Enbrel at 2 x 50mg per week for a month now, I'm getting really bad site reactions, every time I inject the following day I get a swollen, red, itchy patch the size of my hand which takes about a week to calm down using the Fucibet the derm gave me for it and leaves a rash where the swelling was which is turning into more new p. It's getting harder every time to find somewhere to inject. Plus my p is getting gradually worse  >:(
The leaflet says site reactions are a common problem but usually only during the first month, my question is does that mean now I've done a month they should go? Or just that if you're going to get them it will be within the 1st month?
I'd be very interested to hear from those of you who have had this problem with the site reactions whether it eventually stopped or improved as I'm having a bit of trouble persevering with this right now with no results yet  :'(

Ellieh, I haven't injected myself but just wanted to suggest that you contact your Derm to discuss.  Do you normally react to injections?  I get site reaction when getting bloods take etc but not to the degree you are suffering.  I hope you get some answers soon by other users who have more experience!

I did rush up to the derm's in a panic the first time it happened and scare the male nurse into letting me see her by exposing bits of flesh to him  ;D, she just said "oh dear you're one of the unlucky ones, have some Fucibet to put on them"
I'm thinking of going to my gps and getting the nurse there to do a couple and see if it makes any difference though I'm pretty sure it's the drug rather than the injection technique as I never had any problems injecting MTX even though I found that more difficult, all I ever had with that was one tiny bruise like you normally get from blood tests etc. Oh and I often get new bits of p after injections but nothing like this  :-\

Is it a different type of needle some people react to the needle rather than the content?  Its flaming annoying if you are getting new bits of psoriasis because of it!

ooh, I hadn't thought of that, the needles do look different and actually there's a warning note on the box about the needle cover being latex though I'm sure I would have noticed before if I was allergic to that  ???

Just in case this thread is of any use to anyone else in the future LondonKate has suggested on the pa board where I posted it too that antihistamine pills may be the answer so I'm going to give that a try and see, I will post how I get on.
