stop the itching, please!
« on: September 20, 2002, 11:00:13 AM »
I have a very itchy red, raised rash around the psoriasis in the bend of the elbow, which is driving me mad! There are also patches down the sides of the trunk and now on my back. Caladryl Lotion used to be very effective (particularly if kept in the 'frig), but is no longer available. A bag of frozen peas in a piece of cloth sometimes helps, but is not very practical!  My tube of Eurax Cream is nearly finished and I am wondering what to try next. Any suggestions welcome.

Does anyone else have a rash associated with the psoriasis? I am wondering if it is a different problem as it doesn't look like any of the psoiasis pictures one sees. I am seeing the Derm next week and need some intelligent questions to ask.

Many thanks.

Sheila

Eurax cream gave me a rash on its own Sheila - wonder if you are having a bit of a rebound effect from using it.

I keep all my moisturisers in the fridge, aqueous cream can be very soothing when you itch, but I have resorted to medication, Atarax, which is very good although it can make you drowsy. Best time to take it for me is at night time, but that's when my itching is at its worse

Many thanks, Julie, I think you may have cracked it. I had forgotten that Eurax can give an 'allergic reaction' in some people. It seemed to work very well at first and the rash only got very bad over the last three or four days. I'll stop it forthwith and use Aqueous Cream or E45, which I have. What kind of p do you have?

Has anyone tried Benadryl Lotion, which has replaced Caladryl?

Natty, surely you don't mean Erythromycin Cream, which wouldn't be available off-prescription. Interesting, though.

I have generalised pustular p on hands, feet, arms and scalp, and plaque p everywhere else. I have become extremely sun sensitive - in fact the sun causes the pustules so I have spent the summer avoiding any exposure whatsoever. Glad the autumns here :)

Hi Julie ;)

So are you and your docs going ahead with the sun-allergy UVB treatment? Or is that too early yet? :)

Take care, keep happy

Sheilaw ;)

Sorry to hear the P's giving you a bad time :-[
I find that any cream which contains Urea will make me go absolutely and totally frantic with itching - I will (or would - I've learnt my lesson now ;D ) wake up several times a night from the itch, and then find that I had scratched myself to the point of bleeding, in my sleep :-/

So maybe check for a eura content in the cream you get ???

Natty ;) - welcome! :D

Am I very much mistaken here, or is Erythromycin an antibiotic cream? In that case, would it help against the P, or just against secondary infections? ??? ???
Would anyone know? ???

Good luck, gals ;)
Keep happy

OK i have been completly unsuccesfull in finding the tube of cream that i had been using I may have got the name wrong it comes in a large blue and white tube if i remember correctly. it may have an antibiotic in it because my skin gets very inflamed and red. I checked my cupboard and others i have are diprobase, calmurid and betnovate the cream i am thinking of was prescribed alongside the betnovate because you can use it more liberally. i need one that covers a lot because i have P all over my arms ,legs face neck, so i would get thru a lot of betnovate which is not good ive been told after nearly 30 years as a suffer i have gotten a bit lax with treatments because i get so frustrated that nothing seems to work more than a couple of months. I am currently having a major flare up and it hurts.
