UVB Lamp
« on: November 22, 2011, 06:32:33 PM »
Hi, I am a new poster but have been reading this forum for some time now and have found lot of useful help and advise.
I have suffered with psoriasis for the last 4 years, mainly patches over my elbow, knees and calfs. I find that because I work out side during the summer months my skin stays relatively clear. However, the weather last winter had a negative impact on my skin resulting in some bad flare up's leading me to buying a UVB Narrowband Mini Lamp 311 from phbhealthcare. The lamp took its time to start working but after a good couple of months my skin was 99% clear with no nasty flaking.
I stopped using the lamp as the summer kicked back in and  my skin remained pretty clear up until the days became shorter and colder.
I got the mini lamp back out and started to get positive results again, because of this I decided to take the plunge and fork out the £1,349 for PHB's full body lamp just to save time and take out the pain of having to use the lamp to lead a normal life in my short sleeve t-shirts.
I have now been left with a used UVB Narrowband Mini Lamp 311 which cost me £599 just last year.
I do recommend the full body lamp over this small portable one, but for anyone without the space and budget, the Mini is ideal.

Thats good to hear,
I'm slighlty dubious about ordering from PHB, about to buy 6 bulbs and really need them to be philips. Are your philips?

Not sure on the make of the bulbs,
i think any make of bulb will be fine as long as they are UVB Narrowband 311

I ordered from PHB and had no problems whatsoever. They always answered the phone promptly, were knowledgeable and courteous. From order my sunbed (7 x philips TL-01 and 2 other standard UVB tubes) was delivered in 2 days, and within the 3 months or so i've had it i have no complaints at all - far from it in fact, as i am currently P free without the hastle of going to hospital 3 days a week and having to spend 40 minutes a day covering myself in lotions and potions.

Long term with regards to UVB exposure is anybodies guess. I try to use it as little as possible to minimise any risk, but have to live for the present as dont know what tomorrow will bring. Its great being able to go to swimming parties with my 6 year old without the fear of the other parents looking at me like i am a leper!!

Did you guys not have any problems with using the lamp itself? I could only expose areas for about a minute and a half and I ended up burning my skin on several occasions, which I know is very dangerous. Also, takes flipping ages, as it's a mini one  :P

No problems burning. I did what i had done in the hospital which was start at 30 seconds on the first treatment, then go up by 10%. I currently do a total of 5 minutes, trying to turn myself like a rotisserie chicken, so that all of me gets an even distribution of UVB. That is with a full lenght bed though.

PHB is the name of the company:

If you have any questions just phone them. I have found them easy to contact (other UVB lamp sellers i looked at seemed to always be anwer phone only), and helpful.

Someone's selling a 9 tube tanning lamp on eBay not far from me. Could I replace the tubes with UVB ones do you think? New UVB lamp out of my league but P dreadful so a bit desperate.
