UVB & remission length
« on: September 09, 2005, 12:18:10 PM »
my younger brother is due to start his 1st course of UVB on monday and he's been asking me about clearance time.....i have had UVB twice, both with about 7 months clear.
I said i would ask around, as we all know we are all different but i would really really apreciate it if any people who have had UVB answer the poll for us!!

Sorry, can't poll as there isn't an option for me  :(

I am afraid UVB didn't shift one patch of P for me, let along give me any remission.

Will be interesting to see the results, but it would also be interesting to see if the remission times people gain are lower after each subsequent treatment...ie. the second time didn't give as long etc.

hi,ya  long term user  came in  uva and quite few uvb at hosp in the start geat 2 month or more
now less than2wks and it starts showing again not doing much for hands feet
but we are all diff as you say, at my old  hosp and we only had uva there where peps who had up to a 6mths clearence after 8 wk treatment  with  the coaltar uva regime but i suppose severity and what and how long you have been on other treats ie grenz uva skin type even if you work outside  must come into it

hope all goes well and he follows your remission pattern

? as the good weather made a difference

I have had 3 courses of UVB in the last three years.  Briefly, they went as follows:

Course 1: 5 weeks, approx 12 sessions
Result: Complete clearance for about 3-4 months

Course 2: 6 weeks, approx 15 sessions
Result: Complete clearance for about 2 weeks

Course 3: 8 weeks, approx 22 sessions
Results: Complete clearance for about 1 week

Hiya

When I had UVB I have always tended to burn, especially on face and had to wear the mask.

I answered 5 months. But when I had that or PUVA with acetretin, we talk 9/10 months.

Hope he does well.

Hi

Finished 8 weeks UVB mid July. Didn't totally clear it and where it was still there got back to being really crappy within 2 weeks. Real sun  really does work for me much better than the UVB sessions.

Good luck to him though - some people I spoke to had remission for over 5 months.

Finished my first course of UVB back in March with just a few small patches remaining which have since faded away. No sign of any new ones yet so I've answered 6 months.

i was offered uvb treatment, but turned it down as the uva and uvb rays here in nz are higher than anywhere in the world as it is and skin cancer is a biggie here!
goodluck
cheers!
