after some info
« on: September 22, 2002, 10:15:33 AM »
;)Hi guys this is my first time on the site and im after a few bits of information , i dont know wether im in the right room but here goes.I have been diagnosed as having psoriasis for about the past 5-6 years but although its only mild compared to how others suffer i get really conscious about it almost paranoid even, my symptoms are small pink blotches on my skinthat when i bath or am sweaty turn realy red, they appear on my legs arms trunk and back, now every thing my doctor prescribes for me works at first then starts to burn my skin, but he said thats how it works ! is it ? i was surfing the net and read an article saying that similar symptoms to what i have are caused by a bacterial infection and could be treated as such ,but my gp wont refer me to a skin specialist , is this the norm ?and finally my hands and feet are starting to get really itchy but show no signs of blotchyness my gp said it was a symptom of psoriasis is it ? .Sorry if this post is a bit long winded but i really need to know the answers to these questions as i am slowly driving myself mad with my paranoia.THANX SCOOT :-/

Hi Scoot

Welcome to the forum  :)

We can all relate to what you are saying, I’m the same my P gets worse when I am very warm, tend to find that if I am too warm in bed at night, I tend to get very itchy making my skin worse.  In saying that my skin is really good just now, I had UVB treatment earlier this year and my P has came back but it’s nothing like it used to be.

DEMAND to be referred to a dermatologist!!!! They will be able to offer you other treatment apart from creams and ointments, sometimes I think GP don’t know how bad it can be at times to live with P!

And your post is not long winded, hope it’s the first of many  ;D

Oh, have a look at this article it’s explains a lot about P,

Absolutely!

Be very articulate, be very firm and exercise your right to ask for a referal to your local dermatologist.

If this GP still refuses ask for another GP within the surgery (if you have one) to do it for you. If all else fails, sign up with another GP and make a complaint to your local health authority about the lack of care the GP has shown you!

A GP cannot refuse to refer you (particularly as you have a diagnosed skin condition!).

Good luck

I totally agree with all.  You have a right to have a specialist opinion.  Get one and change your GP.  P is a funny thing and there are many different types.  So to treat it properly you need to know what type you have etc.  You may find just having a diagnosis and feeling more in control that the p just eases off a bit.  Stress certainly makes it worse.  Dont delay and let us know how you get on.

Hiya Scoot..

I know it can be hard, you think everyone is staring at you.. but trust me they're not.

I've got pretty bad p and its been worse, my face used to be covered, yet I've met people 4 or 5 times sometimes before they've noticed it.. and asked.

Most people don't notice it. I know it can be hard but forget its there if you're consious of it then people will notice it making you notice it more.

And take the advice above and go see a dermo..  :)

Cheers

Stu.
