unfortunatley the waiting time for some is a long 1, cant you get your gp to send you as an urgent case, after all youve suffered long enough without a derm. my gp did this 4 me :)and i was seen within a couple of weeks so there are spaces availible.
with regards to the redness , mine always goes bright red whenever i apply a cream and yep my derm has told me this is what happens because the p is reacting to it :-/.
ive got clear the once and it definatly was a case of the p will look worse b4 it gets better.
heres hopeing ur new cream will bring some relief 2 u :)

What do you do for a living Scoot?
I've got private medical insurance through work and I can be referred privately for existing conditions.

Could that be an option for you?

Hello Emma i work in the automotive industry manufacturing japanese run arounds in the north east , we do have private health cover but i would have to pay the first 50 quid excess on every treatment so its a bit extreme, if i didnt have dependants then this would probably be no problem but with a wife and two beautiful daughters to provide for things can get a bit tight financially.I'll just have to sit it out and wait for the derm appointment

Is this 2002 or what????

18 months before you can see a derm.......???????  :o :o  Even weeks is too long...... Are there only one or two derms in the UK???
You GP sounds a lot more like comedian than a doctor.....(or is he the kind of "car mechanic who wants to cash in on you for 18 months before sending you to "real" garage"....)

If this is the case, look at the bright side:

Your skin can't possibly be in such a bad state as the Health Service....

Actually it's a scandal to let people wait for so long as it undermines their confidence, self esteem etc, which leads to stress, depression,.... which in turn are bad for the p.

So here's my tip to get to the derm QUICKLY:

Go into a fancy retaurant (best when completely full of people)
Order a huge 3 course meal with everything you shouldn't really eat. (forget about p for one night)
Enjoy the "Entrée" and the main course at ease.......

Then somewhere between the main course and desert, drop to floor and start scratching while going bezerk.....
Don't stop until the ambulance has come to pick you up.
Once in hospital, when you see the doctor, you say you got this terrible itch while eating at this fancy restaurant, and you wonder if it had anything to do with the food or with the p.

My guess is that you'll be sitting at the specialists next morning........

A couple of hints:
- make sure it's a really really fancy restaurant, because than the owner might want a document from a specialist proving it wasn't his cuisine but the p!!!! (you can even make him pay for your treatment for life by saying "What document...???")
-you can also drop to the floor between the entrée and the main course, but since you're not going to pay for the meal anyway (they're going to drive you away in the ambulance, remember), I suggest you stay there and enjoy it for as long as possible.

This might not be suitable for everybody, but if anybody tries it, I sure would like to hear what happened......

Good luck

Another suggestion!

My sister has a condition which is ultimately going to involve an operation and while she's waiting she's in quite a lot of pain.
Her Doctor had referred her to a specialist, but she couldn't wait the time it was going to take for the appointment
She went to see the doctor in desperation and he said that he'd write her a letter and she was to take it in to casualty. It would mean hanging around A&E till she was seen, but if she wanted he'd do it.
She spent a day waiting around, was finally admitted and spent a week in hospital having all the tests done to confirm what the problem was.
She's due to have the op about the same time the initial appointment would have been if she'd waited!

Might be worht a go!!!!
