I have only recently plucked up the courage to explore bath houses as I was fed up of waiting my life away (for the P to disappear!) I was very nervous about what the other guys might think I had wrong with me, but I was pleasantly surprised not to get any dodgy stares at all (this was in London). Seeing someone else with P would have made me feel more at ease though.

Perhaps we are our own worst enemy? It's understandable to want to shy away because of our skin but (to echo the earlier comments about throwing caution to the wind and just wearing shorts and T-shirts whilst P is bad), by hiding ourselves away and not going to bath houses with our P, warts and all, in full view, doesn't this mean that gay society is deprived of experiencing the likes of us and therefore remains ignorant / misinformed?

Hope that doesn't sound too pompous; as you can probably tell, I am still wrestling with substantial confidence and body image issues myself, so please be gentle with me :-)

The vast majority of people with P seem to take the cover-up route and its good that you took the plunge and got it all out there.  Good for you ...and good that you didnt get a bad reaction...there is hope

Many of us are our 'own worst enemy' and I certainly admire your guts and determination.  Life is for living and I'm glad you're comfy enough in your own skin to not shy away or hide away as so many do.  You're an example to many gay men here, perhaps some who are young and are battling this dreaded skin condition as well as coming out to those close to them.  Sometimes we negate what others go thru as we're so caught up in our own little world but you have reminded us that labels don't apply ... and that you can inspire others to have an equally fulfilling life (even if you are still wrestling with substantial confidence ... lol ...).  You're doing just great ... keep posting as you may just be the inspiration someone desperately needs !

So deducing from what you've said... Visiting a bath house gives a gay person an insight into straight encounters?

My question was how does a gay person know the difference? 

I'd imagine the straight and gay experiences to be very very similar...

A gay person knows the difference because gay people live in a predominately straight world and are very clear about what it is to live in our society as a straight person - with or without psoriasis.  Our parents brought us up to be straight people.  The vast majority of straight people have no idea what living as a gay person actually entails and have no reason or need to do so.

It is clear that the general opinion of the gay people on this thread asserts that it feels different.  Surely we know what we're talking about?
