Discrimination?
« on: September 23, 2002, 09:02:51 PM »
Hey,

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced employment discrimination.

Either not getting the job or being sacked because of your P.

I have had both, and think I'm about to be refused emploment again due to it.

This time I'm prepared to fight though and just wondering if anyone has any input.

Cheers

Stu.

Hi Skreid ;) - and welcome to the forum :)

That is really nasty!  >:(
You mean your P was actually quoted as the official reason for you getting the sack?!

I wonder.... is that legal at all?! As you say in your subjectline - it's pure discrimination!  >:(  >:(  >:(

Anyone else had that happen to them?

If I remember right, there was a thread once about someone being refused to work as a nurse (i think) - I'll try to find it back for you ;)

Take care
:)

Hi Des,

Yeah I was sacked from one job when I weas about 16 (I think) and my skin was quoted as another member of staff had complained..

I've also had it quoted as the reason for not getting a job, the RAF doctor said, "we do not employ people with P".

Pretty nasty..

Did he say WHY?!

I can't think of any reason why P should prevent you from doing your job? ???

Oooo - some people make me mad!  >:(

hi sk
Yes there is discrimination for people with p. I have been asked on application forms if I have suffered from psoriosis or exthma, or any other skin disorder, when I asked why this question was on the form, the reply was that it was to cover them insurance wise if you later develop the disorder later, but I think it was just to refuse the person the job. Needless to say I did'nt get it. Oh well I hope you have better luck finding a job than I did.

From my research , certainly with the RAF anyway, the main reason is stated as being because P is a stress related disorder and the job is/can be stressfull they will not knowingly employ someone who will/may take time off due to and existing illness..

Personally I think thats a load of two little round things that guys have.

I do  not believe that my P is stress related. 22 years continueous I've had it.. You're not telling me that I've been stressed since I was six..

I've had stressfull jobs, and stressfull times in my life, my P has never gotten worse.. I think its been wrongly classed in the medical journals..

Michael, thanks for that address, if the fire service fail me because of it I'll certainly give then a call.. the RAF was about 10 years ago, it may of changed now.
