Dry face
« on: February 03, 2012, 10:03:17 AM »
Since the temperatures dropped in the last few months, I'm noticing the patches on my face are worsening more than usual in winter, and even if I cover my face in coconut oil before I go to bed, Im still waking up with both my eyes and nose completely dry and cracked and often bleeding. This is becoming much worse in the last few days since England turned into the Artic!!

I am also waking up dehydrated which, again when I go to bed I feel very hydrated.

I have a small portable heater as only source of heat in bedroom and leave it on low at night, so that could be taking some moisture out of the air, but I do leave the bedroom door open so there should be some air coming from the front door up the stairs and through the landing?

I'm not noticing the same with my other patches of guttate over my body and hands

Leave a damp facecloth near your heater to get some moisture into the air or a small dish of water although knowing you you'll kick it over (hence the facecloth  ;))

You're maybe needing something a bit more heavy duty than coconut oil something more creamier that takes longer to sink into the skin.  Gently exfoliate and moisturise again in the morning as the heavier creams can make your skin a bit sluggish!

Thanks Liz,  I have got a humidifier, but it glowed blue when on and was freaking me out when I woke up in the night as looks alieny  :-[, so packed it away again. I have been putting a glass of water (at a safe distance away) in the bedroom but not helping  :-\

I've got some Exorex cream lying about so I could try that tonight !!

never no heating in our house ..winter time =  the duvet to 12 tog if more needed then fleece on top - bed wear now pyjama bottoms / top thermal ss top followed by pyjama top - only using thermal over this = weather minus -  that heater no doubt drying you out big time - for me and a lesson i learnt years and years ago nivea has amazing products ive always used nivea sensitive after a shave after a shower and if i need more nivea q10 at bedtime its the  the business . and these products are dead cheap at the right places .. one place iver ever suffered and i dont know why is right hand ear never red though but if i dont moisturise with doublebase then looks dry,,

Dear Lord do you ever stop?  Maybe I'm wrong but I am pretty sure Jamie is British, lives in England and has no connection to the Inuit people therefore, its his lifestyle we are commenting on and not that of the Eskimos!  Most of us are pretty familiar with the diet and lifestyle of those residing in the Artic!

Yes central heating dries it out but so does wearing layers of clothing and heavy duvets etc personally I like my window open even during winter and cotton sheets, each to their own. Some people who have psoriasis and PA swear by electric blankets I couldn't even contemplate that.  However, even if you go down the route of "treating from the inside out" you still require to have some immediate resolution to cracking skin, itchiness and general discomfort hence a good moisturiser and some sort of humidity in your room.
