GP Question - please post!
« on: June 30, 2004, 04:50:14 PM »
I know that the questions are very simple! I am doing some research into GP and P Management and know that you good people have an enormous wealth of experience to draw upon...

So, please say yes or no AND, more importantly, post below any experiences you have on the subject of GPs and Psoriasis management.

For instance, if you asked for a treatment and it was refused, what reasons were you given?

Also, how would you describe your relationship with your GP in relation to the management of your condition generally?

Good and bad experiences please!!! All are valid...

Dont go to doctors that often, but when went with P said I wanted a referral to a Derm, he said O.K. booked me an appointment and gave me some Psorin ointment, after a week or so told him I dont like Psorin cause it discolours skin and clothes, so he gave me dovonex cream and Dermovate Scalp application, truth be told think he was just glad I asked for Derm.

My gp doesn't listen to me at all cos he (admitted himself) doesn't know anything about ppp.
Have to see the derm to get the treatments that I want to try!

No offense to GP lovers - my last GP was the biggest BUMB on the planet, he was more concerned about the 10 min scheduled appointment then me. They always rush you, obviously people are waiting to be seen, but sometimes they blatantly throw you out. My new GP, since ive moved to London, is a woman doc, shes topsie pantiezzz, pretty too, and oh speaks in that irish accent, so i guess 10 mins checkin her out is worth it oops i meant her checking me out (MEDICALLY)

Thanks guys...keep them coming.

The reason I have asked is because I am taking part in the British Association of Dermatologists Annual Conference next week. I am representing patient's interests. The BAD are going to publish guidelines for the management of P for GPs. I therefore need to know as much as possible about your experiences...I wasn't sure if I ought to post about this initially, but p o o, what the heck!  ;D

SO WHAT YOU SAY IS OF VALUE AND MIGHT CHANGE THE SYSTEM (but then again, might not  :-/).

So, I am interested in GP attitudes to living with P...the psycholgical and emotional aspects particularly.

Has a GP ever asked you how you are coping emotionally? Have you ever told a GP you feel depressed and how did they react? Or did you feel/do you feel it is pretty pointless mentioning this to them?

Your input is very important and I can only URGE you to take part in this thread...your answers really are important!
