Gutted about Guttate...
« on: January 30, 2012, 11:36:42 AM »
I finished a course of UVB three weeks ago which was reasonably successful, and saw myself as more or less clear… Happy days…

Two weeks ago saw me with a ripping bad throat, fearing the worst of a strep thraot, I went to the Doctors, but could only see a Nurse Practitioner… She had a look and informed me I didn’t need antibiotics for it, even though I’d not experienced a sore throat like it…

Two weeks down the line (now) I’m covered in guttate, leaving me pretty much devastated after only just finishing UVB :(  I’ve only just noticed this morning that it also looks like its appearing on my forehead now too.

So, with UVB out, what could my options be for treating it?  I’ve only ever had UVB for guttate!

Suggestions appreciated as always :)

Sorry to hear Mike, I had mine treated with UVB and PUVA in the past without any joy, so just try to keep moisterised as much as possible these days, but alas that doesnt keep it from appearing where it wants, just keeps it less flakey (most of the time)

Going to the Derm myself end of next month to ask the same question of what they can suggest to help.

Some creams like protopic I read people get joy from when used on the face patches if it helps? My GP wouldnt let me have it though as it didnt say it was for Psoriasis in his book, so im going to ask if I can have some of that to try from the Derm as have patches around my eyes/ nose/ neck & cheeks that get worse each winter.

good luck!

That sucks Mike.   Mine started to come back within two weeks after my last course of UVB, though not due to a throat infection.  I wonder if the GP would give you antibiotics now,  I've read that it can help guttate!  Only on here mind ???  Worth a try.

Or a sweet little holiday in the sun would help.

Thinking about sunshine!!!!  It's all down to when i can fit it around my work though, extremely busy one way or another (not a bad thing)

Going to see my GP tomorrow and try and get another referral!

Does anyone know if you can have PUVA so shortly after UVB?

It's now on my neck nose and forehead :(

Glad you got a cancellation persistence usually pays  ;)

Is it only on your face at the moment ? (yes I know that sounds belittling but its not the way its meant the face is one of the worst areas to have it)  Not sure if they would give you PUVA for one area only  :-\  They might give you a blast of UVB on your face to reduce exposure.  I used to flare during and straight after UVB and I had the whole mix of guttate/plaque/scalp and flexural its flaming awful hence the reason I went onto meds.  That's a whole new ball game as you know!  Hope you get something sorted on Wednesday it always feels so gutting when you know how long and how much effort it took to get to appts then not reap the benefits!  Good luck x

Covered completely... Literally forehead down to my feet, although the patches on my forehead are very pale, i can still see them... the ones on my nose are a very deep red, and look like zits :(

It is a downer on putting all the effort in, not to mention the monumental cost of travelling the extra 277 miles a week  :-\

But, i'm positive about tomorrow, i'm sure something will come of it...  :)

They might be a bit reluctant to go PUVA so quickly after UVB, how many courses of treatment have you had in your lifetime? Given the short break I wonder if they can offer a few sessions of UVB which might hopefully blast it. If you have a low total Joule count you could maybe have some private ones if they refuse?
Think PHO is Great? Why not donate!

I thought they might not want to go down the PUVA route... I've not had many UVB courses, so I did wonder if they would just do a few more to sort it out...

It's just a poor luck of the draw that it's happened this way!

BUT, this being the problem, i'll come back tomorrow armed with some good info on what happens in this fairly rare situation!
