Jewellery and P
« on: June 10, 2006, 11:55:16 AM »
I'm in hosp at the mo (out on weekend leave) and have just had the medical photographer take pics of my wrists and fingers as one of the derm team is fascinated by the fact that i have no P where i wear jewellery.

I wear gold rings and have p before the ring and after, but not under.  However, i also wear I silver bracelets and have p from my elbows to just before my bracelets/watch and then it starts again after, affecting the whold of the backs of my hands.
Because my fingers swelled up i took all my rings off except 1, this is the only finger that the p hasn't spread up. There is still no P under the ring, yet all my other fingers are covered up to the first knuckle.
Is this common? Has anyone else noticed this? I'd love to collate some info and pass it on to my dermy team, mindst ya dote fancy wearing a chainmail suit  ;D ;D

How unusual but that's p for ya, mind of it's own.  Could it be that the skin under the jewellery particularly your ring is not getting a chance to dry out due to sweat.  Bet you have your dermy team stumped

LOL Rachbar, it could be, who knows!?  I did think it was because of the ink in my tattoos (i have one on each wrist) and only in the past month has P spread slightly onto one.  I've also noticed where my nose ring (gold) rests P has APPEARED, but not spread, thank god but i rarely get P on my ears where they're pierced.
The more i think bout it the weirder it sounds.
Here's a pic of my left arm, the P kinda surrounds the tattoo but hasn't touched it.

Oh the derms are stumped but they're thinking along the lines of the nickel content, if they come up wi' summat you'll all be the first to know  ;D

This sounds like it may be occlusion Niiki.

This is when the skin has poor contact with the air as in a plaster cast for example. This keeps out moisture and sweat. I noticed that when i used to get P above my wrist. When i wore a watch it seemed to fade a bit.

This gets stranger AH cos i have to wear my watch with the face on the underneath of my wrist cos if i wear one on the top, where the winder touches the back of my hand P appears!!!
I didn't have my tattoos done until 2 yrs ago cos i thought the same, that or it'd eventually end up on the floor but apart from the middle of it staying in a huge lump for the first 4 wks i've had no probs at all, infact i'm gonna have another one when i get out the hosp  ;)
