money, money, money
« on: February 04, 2004, 10:04:01 AM »
Just wondering if this ever happened to you:

IN Germany we've just had a health care reform so everyone is a bit tense about money currently.

When I saw my Derm on monday I asked for a bigger pack of only one cream resulting in a 10 minute lecture of
- how impossible that was
- how much I was costing anyway
- etc.

He told me to the face that my stuff was so expensive that he'd need 10 other patients to make up for the hole I was cutting into his budget!
And my p isn't even that bad ..... What would he say to someone with severe p (I ned 100 patients to make up for you ???)

Well end of story was I got most of my prescriptions, but was left feeling humiliated and hurt throughout the whole day.

I know p is expensive and a chronic disease. But did I pick it?!
And who gives my derm the right to tell me (actually show me his bills and regression demands from the insurances to make a point) that without me life for all other patients would be easier?

This whole visit is still bugging me - even though it's 3 days ago now :-/

It's time to go Grrrr again.
Yet another example of rudeness from the proffesionals. What's the matter with them, Didn't his mother teach him how to talk to people?
He doesn't have the right to talk to you like that.
Grrrrrrrrrrr
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Would this health care reform in Germany have anything to do with p patients now not being sent to Israel for treatment?

Normally the hotels are full of Germans but during my trip last October, there were hardly any. Word in the solariums was cutbacks in health spending in Germany was the reason.

Is this correct?

GRRRRRRRR!!!

What do they want you to do then?  Crawl away apologising for having a chronic illness.....???

Such people shouldn't be allowed to practice.

Hi Paul,

well strictly speaking the "big" helth care reform has just taken place from January 2004 and basically involves paying more for the patients ;)
We now have to pay 10 Euros at our first doctors visit every 3 months and also prescriptions have got a lot more expensive (chronically ill patients did not have to pay anything, so did most students - fortunately I was both ... now we have to pay up to 2% of our total income ... which is quite a lot for me, but I still think it's manageable and okay)

But I think the money in the health care sector has gone down in general a lot during the last years so it has been continiously more difficult to get presriptions in general, in particular for rehab and the like (dead sea would count under that too I guess).

but as I never was at a stage to have been sent to the dead sea (luckily my p is not that bad) - I have not a clue about that :-/

Any answers for you in there?

Take care,

-A-

Thanks Sheepful.

Curiosity got the better of me on this subject so I emailed a friend in Essen I know from my Israel visits and she has just confirmed that in most cases treatment at the Dead Sea has been stopped because of a shortage of funds and cut backs.

She did add that it costs more in Germany to treat bad cases of p than going to Israel, so it actually costs more in the long run. :-/

Which is another proof of the current attitude in our health care system to save money - no matter at what cost ;)

Gggggrrrrrr......

You know I'm right there with you Annika - what is wrong with these people ??? :-/

I'm not surprised you're still angry about it... i'm just as fuming about mine as I was yesterday and don't expect this feeling to go for a while.

I think in order to be a derm you need to have a skin condition   :)

We'd all make great derms I think!!
