Multivitamins advice please.
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:30:51 PM »
Hi all, I am in the process of trying to find info on whether taking a multivitamin everyday would help my pustular psoriasis?
(hands and feet only)
I already take a Cod Liver Oil supplement and it seems to be having a small affect (I think!).
I have to admit that I'm not very good with the old balanced diet thing and have suddenly realised that I can't remember the last time I ate a piece of fruit, although I do have plenty of vegetables.
I don't really want to go down the route of taking individual vitamins as not all are water soluble but am wondering whether anyone else takes a multivitamin once a day and if so, if there was any improvement at all?
 :)

Hi Sarah

I suffer from the same and also take fish oil supplements, I dont take multivitamins but for the last month or so I have been taking a high strength digestive enzyme formula and milk thistle and whilst I wouldn't say for definate this has helped (as like many others try multiple things as the same time) I have had alot of improvement lately, and generally my overall health feels quite a bit better.
Think it's just a case of try and see with most supplements and dietary advice, I know i always feel a bit more positive when i'm eating properly or i've read about a supplement that can help, probably the placebo effect but when you look at the alternative and the medication available from docs, anything in small doses if they can help a little cant be a bad thing....Nikki

Thanks Nikki, that's interesting, I will try the enzyme and milk thistle.
Know what you mean about the placebo affect though.  Since Monday I have not eaten any wheat at all and my hands and feet seem to have suddenly become really calm.  I know that, if it was a wheat intolerance it would take longer than a week to show any benefits but, as you say, placebo or not it seems to be helping :)
Off to the chemist now  ;D

About 5 years ago I tried cod liver oil in the liquid form. I took one teaspoon a day. My psoriasis cleared up completely. I suffer from it on my scalp only. I stopped the oil and it came back with a vengeance. I tried cod liver oil again but it didn't react the same. Cod liver oil has a noticeable calming effect. Howeve you have to be careful because of the large amount of vitamin a in it.
