NEW TO P ANY HELP GRATEFULLY RECEIVED
« on: December 13, 2011, 03:42:48 PM »
My son started as a barber and now has got a full head of itchy flakey sore skin all over his head. He cant stop itching and picking and its become more like a habbit now for him he just wont stop touching it. The doctors prescribed some shampoo which he rarely uses as he thinks it does not help. I definately know he is stressed and this keeps his head red raw but I just wondered if anyone had some suggestions of what we can use as its difficult to get him to go to the doctors.
I brought back a product from morroco which is like cold tar it smells of wood it does releive the itching but now he has the habbit of always picking at his head. Any suggestions gratefully received I am definatey going to buy him some stress balls or something that he can do with his hands to stop him from picking. I have one small patch that flares spasmodically and depends on the type of clothing I wear I find when I get hot and sweaty this flares it up! My mum suffered too its so sad to read some of the stories as it is just so uncomfortable for everyone! Happy Christmas may your P not flare and let there be Peace Happiness with some fun thrown in! Thank you

hi there

Sorry to hear about your family's psoriasis. Cold tar shampoo is prob the best but thats just my opinion and it really doesnt smell too nice though does it!  ::)

I remember back when i was 16 and in hospital, they plastered my scalp and hair in this coconut preparation...have no idea what was in it but it did soothe my scalp. Wrapped my head in cling film if i remember rightly! Luckily i dont suffer from scalp P so much now but when i do, i find Head and Shoulders for itchy scalp quite good...maybe if your son's scalp feels more comfortable then he'll be more inclined to leave alone. I'm terrible though when i do get a patch, i'm picking and picking! Its habit!!

Best wishes.

My daughter is also at that stage, hand to head constntly till its red raw, she is only 12. and undignosed as yet. boots own shampoo and conditioner gave her a bit of relief and stopped some of the flaking. I read on the alternative thread about doogrow oil, I have ordered and am waiting on it arriving from amazon. will try it and see if it does anything, think the thread is scalp blizzard or something if you want to have a look on the alternative boards. I have nail Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. skin lesions are also new to me other than having grown up ewith it and small bits on elbows which i do nothing with. Sharon.
