Plaque and now Guttate Too?
« on: September 30, 2011, 01:51:48 PM »
Hi

I have suffered from mild-ish plaque p for many years but a few weeks ago I noticed some red spots on both my legs that I assume is guttate p.  These spots have now travelled all the way up to my buttocks and I dont think they have finished. I am really worried that they will just keep going till they reach my head.

I have read that guttate p is often caused by a throat infection, however I have had nothing like that so I was wondering how it can suddenly come out of nowhere. Is there anyone else who has both forms of p and did an infection cause your guttate to appear?

I have been very very stressed over the last 6 months or so (I am a chronic worrier anyway, I litterally worry about everything) so I wondered if this could be the cause of the sudden appearance of guttate. I could cope with the plaque p, but now I seem to have both and the guttate is spreading fast.

Please help as any advice to ease my worry would stop me worrying so much.  Thanks.

Hi Emma and welcome along

My Psoriasis started out life as Plaque when I was 8, but I now only suffer with Guttate, so some years ago without me noticing (stupid i know) it changed. So whether the same things happening with you, I don't know?

Stress is horrible to suffer with and sorry that your worrying so much (I am definately a chronic worrier myself!! I worry about worrying!) , I can't recall any throat infections myself so I've always been mystified why mine changed.

Take care and hope you find out some more info

Jamie

Thanks for the info Jamie...

I have not had Guttate confirmed by a doc yet, I am just going on what it looks like and how its spread. However I am starting to wonder if its more likely to be a rebound from using Dovobet ointment.  I haven't previously given any thought as to how I should gradually come off the stuff and I have been using it very sporadically, and since then I seem to have come out in either more smaller plaque spots or Guttate.

I suppose my GP is the best person to tell me this.  Can you get lots of small plaques that look like spots? Although some do look like small plaques too.

In all the years of using various steroid creams I have never had any kind of rebound and I have been quite ignorant to it to be honest (I didn't even know you could get a rebound until recently)   ::)

Hi Emma

Rebound from Dovobet sounds possible as I had one last summer after being prescribed it for Guttate and was applying it like moisturisor  :-[

My gp shouldnt have prescribed me Dovobet apparently as should only be used on patches, and with guttate, Id be there all week doing that!! But I was the same, I been here since 2004 and not remembered reading up on rebounds, so was pretty annoyed with myself for only finding out after!!

Worth going back and asking doctor/ See derm I would say, and good luck, hope it calms down soon if it is a rebound, mine took about 3 weeks or so and then went back to its default coverage..

That's what happened to me!  Small bits of plaque here.  Applied Dovobet as prescribed.  Weaned off it carefully then had a massive outbreak of guttate which eventually joined up in lots of areas and became plaque!  Not good!  If you aren't already referred to a Dermatologist I would certainly consider asking your GP to do so.  I hope it settles down for you soon.

Same for me, had plaque on scalp, elbows, knees and face and only found out last week when I went for uvb, that all the other little patches are guttate!!.
I haven't had any throat infections or illness's but have been really stressed and gave up smoking again which is when the 'guttate' started!. I'm confused.

Yep Luvvi that sounds like what I am going through, plaque in the usual places (elbows, knees etc) but now I have the spots all over both legs, it's a pain in the rear end -  where I also have some btw  :)  I will defibnately try to get reffered to the specialist as I'm sick of looking like a patchwork quilt.

I'm glad that others think stress is a factor as I'm a worrier at the best of times, I'm a terrible hypocondriac, I have even been known to worry about feeling well... "there must be something really wrong with me if I feel this well, I bet its the start of something.::)

Knowing you guys are going through the same thing (in a nice way, no offence) really helps me. I must try to stress less!

I put this on another thread regarding Dovobet

I began using Dovobet on my plaque psoriasis and it helped but now, after having psoriasis for 40 years, I have come out in Guttate psoriasis all over my body.  It's driving me mad and nothing seems to work.  As I live in a hot country (Spain) to have to go out in trousers and a long sleeve top is very hard.  I am sure that it was the Dovobet that triggered it off.  Can anyone suggest a what I can use on Guttate psoriasis?

It was suggested that this will soon die down and I only hope it will.  It is all over my body now and I don't feel like leaving the house.  Feel really depressed, it's really worse that Plaque Psoriasis.

Hello, I'm pretty new here myself but have experience of both kinds of P.

I started with Guttate when I was around 14 (I'm nearly 40 now). It appeared overnight and I hadn't had a throat infection at all. It cleared after using topical creams (I don't *think* I had any steriods) after about 5 months. In my 20's I came out with plague P all over the backs of my legs. I had these for a few years until a knowledgable gp perscribed me Dithrocream and emoillients 4 times a day which worked like a charm and I was clear until another bout of guttate a few years ago. This last bout wasn't after a throat infection but was after about 6 months after a really stressful period.

With the last flare of guttate, I luckily saw a GP again who had an interest in skin. She asked me what creams I'd previously used and I said Dithro cream. She said it wasn't suitable for guttate, but if I promised to sit patiently and treat each larger spot with the skin (carefully not getting it on the good skin) she would perscribed again. I did this, and it worked. I have have been pretty clear since.

My daughter is currently suffering terribly with guttate and she's only 6. I'm feeling pretty scared and desperate so I know how you feel.

I also know a friend who had a flare of guttate that disappeared on it's own after a few months and never returned. She didn't have a throat infection either. I think it's a myth!

Hope things turn out okay for you.

Barbara, I also live in Spain, ask your doctor or dermatologist for DECLOBAN ointment, it is amazing, and really helps stubborn patches. I donīthink itīs available in UK, but it is in Spain.
