Pustules - chickenpox?
« on: February 09, 2010, 02:58:21 PM »
I am looking for some advice. I have had aches and pains since Sunday night, with chills and fever. I've started to develop small pustules here and there on my torso. Might be chickenpox - wonder if anyone has any experience of this as an adult. What should I expect?

Mysterious - get to the Doc.

I had shingles in my eye ... and was hospitalised for 3 weeks.  :( I don't remember being in pain or feverish, I just had a little spot above my eye.  Chicken-pox or Shingles can be quite serious for adults ... so get round to Dr and get on necessary treatment.

I have suffered it as an adult, no fun as it was complicated with pneumonia.
Chicken Pox in an adult can be serious.
Get yourself off to the doc ASAP

Same here, get yourself seen by a doc and tell them you think it may be chicken pox. I had it at about 28, suddenly started feeling dreadful, high fever, next day I can out in pustules on my face to begin with. Went to the A&E as I felt so dreadful, walked in telling them I had never had chicken pox. They said I had a cold, go home take a paracetamol. Next day I was covered in pustules, still high fever, went back and they said I had acne and to see a derm  ::) Eventually saw my gp, who said yes I had chicken pox. All they could do really was tell me to take paracetamol for the fever, not use soap and not to scratch (very important, I did an ended up covered in scars to counterbalance the p!)
I ended up being off work for about 3 weeks as you are contagious until all pustules have dried up, I felt reaaly rough for the 1st week due to the fever but after that I was fine. My daughter who was 6 months old at the time caught it from me and was fine, hardly bothered her at all.
Anyway, what I meant to say before I started waffling was good idea to get yourself checked out, it can be serious to have as an adult but not necessarily, I felt bloody awful for a week but fine after that.

Hi I came out in little blisters on my stomach first. I had just had my daughter she was only about 5 days old. The gp said I had foot n mouth disease, that was on the Friday by Sunday I was covered in it. Between my fingers, face everywhere. Went back gp on the Monday confirmed chickenpox, blisters were so big and itchy. Daughter was given some antibodies because she had no immunity and could of been dangerous for her. About 3 weeks later my son who was 2 and a half and my daughter got the chickenpox. Jack was covered in spots Sophie had about 6 spots!!

It was strange because both son ad daughter had shingles Sophie at about 3years old and jack at 15. Shingles looks the same as chickenpox but is contained to one area, luckly my children were not really ill with it.

Sorry - I'm not very well-up on adult chickenpox, but I hope you don't have to feel too bad for too long!

Get well very soon  ;)

Go see your doc - I went when I thought I had chicken pox but he diagnosed it as guttate P which I'd never seen before as I had only ever had plaque.  seriously - it did LOOK like chickenpox lol felt like a right fool.

Hope you are feeling better now.  I've never had chicken pox either and am absolutely dreading getting it as an adult!

NEVER AGAIN!!!! It was horrible  :'(

I am feeling better - but not 100% there yet. Quite a trip - some complications and interactions with the health service on the way, but now on the road to full recovery.

But it was horrible. I've never felt so close to heaven. I've lost even more weight. I need to go on a weight gain diet - this weight loss is getting ridiculous.

My trousers are falling down.  :-\
