I endorse Luvvi's recommendation for eating bananas. I have no idea why but they do help.

Thanks Luvvi, they do sound like bickering ladies And I seem to have started them off again LOL.  Yes I am taking with bananas, thanks for the tip.  Hopefully the side effects will behave themselves and happen one at a time and not all together.

Hello been awhile but here is update. Side effects got worse and I seriously considered giving up but as Consultant appointment was not too far away I hung in  a little longer. Consultant appointment today advised side effects are bad but they should reduce in a month or two, I now have the full strength 120mg tablets starting at one a day, then two then three then another week at three. If the side effects stay too bad I will stay at low dose until next appointment, and if things get worse I will stop all together, in the meantime I will try for longer and see how it goes.

Hi Pizzabase,

Without getting too graphic, what side effects are you getting? There may be some advice that can help with them.

In my experience, sticking with Fumaderm is worth it because it does control the dreaded P.

I wish you all the best,

Daryl

Hello, thanks for the concer, trying not be graphic!.  On a minor front I get a sore which does not worry me much, also quite minor is the the slight colic moments but these usually pass reasonably quickly.  I also get some itching strangely this is not the areas of psoriasis but skin close to larger areas of psoriasis, eg legs and arms. The real problem areas are drowsiness, cramps and diarrahoea.  Drowsiness comes with some light dizzy-spells, but the tiredness is quite hard to deal with. I get a lot of stomach cramps, I have been given Buscapan Tablets (hyoscine butybromide) 10mg to help with this, but only two tablets a day, half of the time these do not stop the cramps for long enough to offer any real comfort if the cramps ar ein isolation the tablets have more effect, but often they come with the serious diarrahoea. Diarrahoea is a daily problem ranging from light to quite severe, and when severe is accompanied by serious cramps which the buscopan seems to be unable to contend with.  Therefore the serious bouts can take a lot out of, which in turn cause loss of sleep which saps morale very quickly.  If there were enough days between serious bouts then I would be a lot happier, but the serious bouts are three sometimes four days apart, of course regular and light diarrahoea still occur on the other days.

I can see huge effect on the psoriasis, hence the reason I am still continuing with the fumaderm, also evidence presented by the the consultant strongly suggests the side effects ease or dissapear after three months, (so just under two months to go?).  If anyone can give advice to reduce the effects of the side effects then please please do so.  At the moment considering the lifestyle effects I am worse off with the fumaderm, my spare time is seriously suffering as is physical contact with my wife.  I do not want to return to endless creams, scratching and leaving piles of skin wherever I stand so I do want this to work, anything that may help get me through this is welcomed.

Hi Pizzabase,

Gosh, I really feel for you. It would appear that the side-effects that you are experiencing are far worse than any that I had (or have). However, I can relate to a lot of what you say, but I have no remedy.

I am sorry, perhaps someone else can help.

Regards,

Daryl

From time to time you will always get side effects to the Fumaderm.  I remember thinking I couldn't cope on it anymore as my life style had been completely compromised on it and I thought I could cope with the psoriasis better than the sickness and fatigue of the Fumaderm and I was on my way to tell my consultant exactly that and to take me off it.  Luckily I was blogging on here at the time and I had posted about how I felt.  There were a lot less Fumaderm users back then.  Frost had been clear for about 12 months I think and he told me to give it a bit longer so I did.  It suddenly started working (I'll point out I was on a mix of MTX and Fumaderm at the start.....so it was double the side effects)  Once MTX was stopped the Fumaderm kicked in and its been great ever since.  I get side effects some days more than others.......but I can live with them now and they aren't so bad!

Hi thanks I will try to stick it  a little longer, am now considering use peppermint oil to help with cramps and diarrhoea.   Alos I noticed this in Fumaderm script "if you experience strong side effects with even 1 or 2 tablets this could mean your body can absorb the active ingredients patricularly well, meaning a lower dosage may work and that success may be quicker", has anyone thoughts on this and peppermint oil?

Hi Pizzabase,

I may have mentioned this before, if so - apologies! But due to my low Lymphocyte count I have had to reduce my Fumaderm intake to 2 x 120mg tablets a day (I was on 6). However, my P is pretty much still under control. And certainly much better than it has been for the past 12 years. So do try to stick with it!

Regards,

Daryl
