I find that if you have a shower or bath, and you put on Johnsons Baby Gel on and pat it dry, the scales go away for a few days. You will just have the red marks left. The only problem with this is that you are all sticky and shiny for a few hours after, so its not advisable for the morning before you go to work. You will look like one of those bodybuilders caked in oil!
Theres no point in getting stressed - It does nothing for you!

When I am really scaled up I find a splash of baby oil in my bath water really helps. All the flakes just fall off after an hour or two, much to my wifes annoyance.

Well I use a body scrub, it exfoliates all skin and so the scaly bits too.  I do this whether I am covered or clear -ish, and it does help with the build up.  Lots of moisturiser afterwards and you'll have lovely soft skin, if only for a few hours!

I agree - I use a mild body scrub (shower gel type) and then lots of moisturiser afterwards. Feels much cleaner, if much redder!

My derm says to leave them :-/ but I think it's just such a great releif when they come off ::)
For my head I use a salycic acid solution that I put on before washin and afterwards comb them out with a comb that you usually use for lice :P

Works a treat ;D

I have psoriasis covering most of my legs with large patches on my arms and back. The scales get so itchy and flakey that i have started to gently scrub them off using a foot file. Could this make my psoriasis worse?

i try and remove the scale if i can without causing it to bleed.  then i apply my ointment.  i feel the ointment is wasted if i just apply it on the scale.  can't imagine how it can penetrate the scales.  ??? >:( ::)

Nothing like a good picking to descale, missus hates me doin it.  shouldnt really pick as I tend to break the skin and make it bleed, which cant be good, should just moisturise, and use scrub while in shower.
