Scalp P and Hairdressers
« on: March 08, 2010, 01:57:25 AM »
I have never ever been to a hairdressers other than to have a trim, now I'm thinking about having blonde highlights done but I'm scared that it will burn my psoriasis on my scalp.

Can anyone help? I have no idea what sort of hairdressers to either google or look for, or what sort of things I should be asking the hairdressers.
An old newbie that pops back to the forum when I'm at my lowest a fantastic forum XD

My barber always looks aghast when I ask for my usual #3 with the clippers, as if he's embarrassed on my behalf in case, shock horror, the odd bit of red or scaling might be visible!

I'm like, take it all off, because my P is much better with less hair than more. Dunno why tho!

Hi,

I have blonde highlights done with foil at hairdressers every 2 or 3 months; have never had a problem.  I've had P at times, other times it's been less noticeable.  My hairdresser is quite used to it, she says many people have P  and even introduced me to a fellow hairdresser who has P on scalp also.  So once again, you're not alone.

Any new hairdresser would do a 24 hour skin test, usually on your wrist or nape of neck, then check it next day before putting the colour on.  There's nothing to worry about if its done properly.

Hope this helps,
big hugs
BB

Go for it.  Getting my hair coloured actually helps my psoriasis on my scalp.  If you search you will find a couple of threads about it!

I usually take a bad reaction when I have my hair coloured, my scalp is highly irritated for around 2 days and feels inflamed.  My scalp does seem to clear a bit from the p for around a week though.
