UVB/sunlight question...!
« on: December 21, 2011, 11:01:08 PM »
Hi

I was just wondering (for most people who have had experience with this) - Do you find your psoriasis comes back even worse than it was before after UVB or just sunlight?
or does it appear to come back in exactly the same places as it was before, with little/no change

Thanks
James

Hi Yorki, with NBUVB the P returns worse than before, and in new places as well as old. It kind of explodes.
With sunlight and PUVA, it comes back but not worse, just comes back in the same places.

I seeeee, thanks for the reply.
Is that like, you're experience with it?
or common knowledge?

Mine came back worse after 1st lot
when I had 2nd lot it was clearer for longer then had a flare then it all pretty much went
3rd time went ok until I became allergic to diprobase
now on my 4th lot!!

It has always come back worse when taking drugs (cyclo/mtx)

My first experience of NBUVB in 2008 kept me pretty clear for about nine months.

My second experience of NBUVB in 2010 was nothing short of a disaster. I had a massive flare-up half way through the treatment, which resulted in me getting burnt. And I finished the treatment, more or less, back at where I started.

I don't feel that I am being very helpful, but that is what happened.

I probably should add that I spent many years working in some very hot countries and while, at the time, I used to tan very easily it has taken a toll on my skin. My Derm describes it as being like "tissue paper". Although the steroid creams may also have done damage in this area.

My P comes back slowly and not as severe after a clearance achieved by natural sunshine treatment (Dead Sea). 'Normal' sunshine anywhere else such as a med trip does nothing for my skin.

I had hospital administered UVB in April/May this year and had a reasonable result. My P is now returning at roughly the same speed and severity as i would expect following a Dead Sea trip.

Any other treatment I have tried over the years gives me awful flare ups so for me sunshine/UVB is best by far.
Always look on the bright side

That't similar to me, although i've never been to the dead sea, and I do well with natural sunlight....

How do you get on with normal sunlight James?

Generally i've found people who cope with the sun well, get on well with UVB :)

Well I've only had P since may! but this summer it definitely receded then just came back slowly after i stopped sunbathing (within a week or two)!  although i found that my scalp got a lot worse when i was on holiday in spain - while my skin got better. So a bit wary. Although i have a feeling this was sea water but i really am not to sure as I haven't been able to test it too easily.
