Wedding blues!!

Hi all,

My psoriasis is really bad at the moment. I am getting married in 6 months & am dreading showing my skin off in my lovely dress!! I have tried all the creams that the doctor has given me & am hoping for a referral to the hospital next time I visit them but is there anything else I can try to help before then?!

When you say the hospital I presume you have a dermotologist? If you do I would tell him/her your situation - 6 months is a long time surely they could provide you with some kind of treatment to clear you for your wedding. I don't know if you ever had UVB light treatment but it is great for clearing temporarily and you get a lovely tan - that's safer than a sunbed !!! I know there can be waiting lists. I know I was in a bad way a couple of years ago and went to a Dermotologist privately (I had to pay) and she admitted me as an in-patient to a private hospital to get two to three week UVB treatment - the hospital stay was covered by my health insurance so the only thing I had to pay for was the initial appointment. I am currently just seeing my GP for this but am hoping to get a referral to a dermatologist at the hospital. I did try sunbeds for a while the first time round & it didn't make too much difference although it didn't look as bad as the rest of my skin was tanned. Obviously that was UVA though rather then UVB so maybe that would work better. I have been told about acupuncture aswell - have you tried this? I will try just about anything to try & clear this up. It's not just about the wedding. I love the summer & am dreading the thought of having to cover up or worry about what people say. I try & forget about it every so often & wear short sleeves, something I can do easily around my family & friends - luckily they are all very understanding - but it's the looks from other people I can't stand!!

UVB all the way! 6 months would be more than enough time to get sorted out!

Heh - have never tryed acupunture so not much help there. Have tryed sunbeds and no good. The UVB is very effective. I know the feelin about havin to cover up it is a pain I like you cringe at the thought of my P being on show I would like to be brave about it but am not i'm afraid.  There are plenty of treatments out there it's a case of finding right one for you - Talk to a Dermatoligist. Mine is very helpful and assures me that if the treatment I am currently on (medication) stops working that there are plenty of other avenues to pursue. All the best

I'm almost at the end of PUVA treatment, and have had amazing results, so think this would be your easiest and least invasive option.
And you'll have a bonus tan as well for that gorgeous dress

I was ready to postpone my wedding my skin was so bad.....

Thankfully i had a 3 week pre wedding stint in hospital for treatment and i had a 2 week greece hen-do holiday to look forward to
I came back 4 days before our wedding, looking fab.
The i stuffed off to Mexico for our honey moon, my skin has never been so good with all that sun!

I would suggest UVB, you get a tan and it should clear your skin.

Thank you everyone, this is really helpful & I am starting to feel like I have one less thing to worry about (which is probably not helping either!!)

I am off to the doctors on Monday so I will speak to them about this & demand that they get me onto the UVB treatment asap!!
