Why?

This has probably been covered so many times, but today at work I was chatting to one of the lads who a few months ago I'd noticed his lower arms and hands were very red and dry, but it looked more like Eczema, and he did say he suffered from that and asthma when we talked about it ( I wouldn't normally ask, but he was itching like mad, so asked if he wanted to borrow some doublebase).. Today I was chatting to him as he'd come back from the derm in the morning and he showed me a large area of Guttate on his stomach and said that Guttate Psoriasis was what was diagnosed in the end, but they wouldn't give him any treatment as it was fading again by itself.

He said the Derm was talking about triggers and he said he'd had a throat infection in September and it all started then, so I said I knew about the triggers and heard throat infection was a common one, but what we chatted about and couldn't understand was, why was his fading again, and why was mine stubbornly hanging around for so long?? We both got Psoriasis through triggers, albeit different triggers, but Is something in his body telling him that what had happened was incorrect and then worked to fix it again, where in my body It doesn't understand its incorrect and carries on as if its normal??

Million dollar question, or a really daft question. Been bugging me all day now.

I guess were all different people different triggers and such my guttate flares sometimes but always fades away after 2-3 months on its own only moisturise and aveeno bath. Why is some people's more stubborn wish I knew and could help! P is a puzzle in its self I reckon.

I have stubborn bits of P, that are pretty much always there (elbows) and i've come to accept that... where other parts (same site) will come and go on their own accord :\

I don't think there are really any set rules to it, which makes it harder to get your head around :(

I'd like it so everyones would just clear of its own accord!  :D

Thanks everyone!

Ditto Mike, would be brilliant if everyones just cleared!! I wish for that too. My elbows and knee's are the most stubborn.

This is my probably quite vague and uneducated thoughts on it all.

Trauma - Psoriasis triggered. Like any significant traumatic event that the body suffers and causes it to go into immediate emergency action, which could be psychological, infection/ disease.. etc. This event could also switch it back off again in some cases?

My Psoriasis developed after a bike crash when I was 8 which was a sudden impact, maybe even the gravel I landed on that cut my elbow up badly caused an infection which is still ongoing 26 years later  :-\

I met a women when I was in hospital about 10 years ago and she was telling me she had Psoriasis for years when she was young which started after she nearly drowned. She suffered from sudden paralysis, which unfortunately she'd had an episode while she was out swimming. She told me her Psoriasis cleared after she sadly had a misscarriage years later  :(

Once the Psoriasis has been triggered, it remains active as it is caught up with the T-cells that are actively fighting say an infection, another disease, cortisol ie in stress, so if those health issues are repaired the Psoriasis maybe clears/ improves?

Maybe, for example,  this could be why some people say diet has helped them as the diet has fixed another health issue(s) which the Psoriasis was caught up with trying to repair??

Sorry if that is all vague, or rubbish, but I'm no Doctor, scientist..etc, just someone trying to get there head round Psoriasis  :(

Haven't a clue Jamster but the wee selfish bit in me used to always scream when I would read on the boards about people having "flares" and then going into remission.  Mine used to flare and remain just getting worse and worse then going to another area and get worse again!  I could never understand how some people seemed to have something trigger their psoriasis but with time and patience it would go.....its a fickle old thing!

Hi Luvvi,

I think that I have had some sort of "natural" remission, three times in the past 15 years.

No, I have no idea how or why, but it (my P) has just got better. And, NO it has not totally cleared but it has got much better without any change in treatment.

One thing that I am absolutely convinced that helps is moisturising under occlusion. Especially using Hydromol. OK, that works for me and may not for others but you might like to give it a try. Expect that you probably have already! But for anyone else reading this post......

All the best for 2012.

Regards,

Daryl
