Worried about a family gathering
« on: December 07, 2011, 11:25:01 PM »
My children aged 22 and 25 have never seen me with a flare up as bad as it is at the moment. It is my eldest daughters birthday this weekend and my H and I are going up to spend the night with her and her boyfriend.

I am hoping once I get ther that it will be OK. But I am dreading them seeing the state I am in, inc my hands. I have warned her and she just says 'oh Mum' but it is a huge thing for me.

I set the bar way to high for me and I feel a failure, as if my body is letting me and them down. Also what will her boyfriend think, he is a sweet man but then I rock up and flake over their flat.

I know it is pathetic but I can't stop worrying = vicious circle.

Hey Kath sorry to hear your suffering at the moment ~ big hugs~.
I know exactly how you feel I felt the same when I had to meet my outlaws for the first time and my P decided to play up and attack my hands like never before. I have unstable plaque P that has a tendency to turn Erthrodemic. I dreaded going into work the last time it happened as i looked like I had overdone it on the sunbed  ;D.
I suspect your daughter has already explained to her boyfriend about your skin, and it is easier said then done but try not to worry about leaving a trail us P sufferers are good at that hence we wouldn't make good burglars  ;D.
I'm sure once you get there you will start to relax, the weather does not help us much.
Remember your not a failure us P and Pa sufferers are the lucky chosen ones, may not always feel like it but come on if it wasn't for us being achey flakeys we wouldn't have this wonderful site , now would we.

Chin up and Enjoy.

Hi Kath, sorry your worrying, Im worrying to as Im going to meet my brother, wife and kids for first time saturday in years and my face has flared pretty bad, so im dreading my neices and his wife seeing me for the first time ever looking like this. I nearly mailed my brother to warn him.

Its never pathetic to worry, and I feel like that for worrying too, but I also remember the feeling of worrying about something so much, then it happens and you immediately think, what on earth was I worrying about!!! So be strong and everything will be fine im sure

Have a lovely time and take care

Thanks Jamie, I do hope your meeting goes OK as well. I know I'm lucky because in 48 years I have never had P on my face. In my eyebrows and hairline yes but that is all.

I was just beginning to regain my confidence and life after breaking my neck in a car crash, losing my job and PTSD, this just seems the final straw. I am so tired of trying to be strong. I just can't cope, I don't want to cope but there is no option. I guess I'll just take it minute by minute.

oh bless ya heart hun.

Remember they love you for YOU! They'll probably be more upset because you're suffering pain and discomfort . Try to stop worrying and enjoy spending time with yr family. I'm sure once you're with them, you'll relax and enjoy yourself! xx

Well I have just had lunch with a friend who hasn't seen me for over 12 months. She has never seen my skin as bad and didn't bat an eyelid. Only gave me hugs.

We have just spent a v pleasant 2 hours having lunch, wine and gossiping away. I feel relaxed now but a bit tired (again). I think I may have a nap.

Oh well, the best laid plans.

Because of Max and his little accident, we had to cancel going to visit my daughter and her boyfriend. That was not a happy conversation to say the least.

She was in tears, I was in tears, even my husband was upset. We had all been looking forward to it even though I was worried. It isn't often we see her and tomorrow is her birthday.

We will have to rearrange it for the New Year.

Thanks Kath, hugs back to you.. So sorry your meeting got cancelled, New Year is just a turn of a corner away though so sure the tears will soon be replaced with big smiles x

My meeting went well thanks, brothers wife and neices didnt bat an eye lid and nieces even requested to hold my hands  (mainly being dragged around a toy shop to choose them presents ha)

I did explain to my brother I was suffering though and he said it wasnt a worry and I didnt have to explain anything  :)

Face was pretty dry as it was freezing and could only take a tiny tub of Exorex I found in the flat over in my hand luggage on the flight to Ireland.

Take care

Hi Jamie, I am so pleased yours went well. I did think of you as I was lighting my candles.

It looks as if everyone will be home on Boxing Day. My youngest and my brother will be here for Christmas. Boxing Day is the day the girls like best. We go for a pub lunch and then the rest of the day/evening is at home, grazing a buffet and playing games.

We will visit my eldest in the New Year. She still had a good weekend birthday without us, so I was pleased about that.

Take care
Kath
