A few questions on the Pagano diet
« on: October 07, 2011, 04:01:47 AM »
Hi all, I am just starting the Pagano diet for the 2nd time in my life as my P has flared up quite badly of late and I had a couple of questions

- Whilst I am moving to  wheat free bread with minimal yeast, what spreads would you recommend I put on my bread? Is Tahinee ok – the ingredients say 100% chickpeas, what about Avocado? Anything else?

- I am taking the Slippery elm tablets. 800mg. How many of them a day is adequate. They are chewable but does it make any difference if I just swallow them with water. I found the powder and chewing quite disgusting. I am also taking 4000mg of fish oil a day in tablet form, natural Chamomile tea at night as a substitute for the Yellow Saffron tea and Flaxseed oil. Am I missing any?

- What are the best vegetable juices to have?

- Any other substitutes for my old not so great diet would be greatly appreciated.

I am hoping I can wear shorts this summer in Australia!

Many thanks

Warren

Avocados are ok.  Tahinee sounds good.  You can put some margarine or low fat/fat free cream cheese on it too.  All jams are ok, just make sure they are not high in sugar and don't have high fructose corn syrup.

You should take the powder.  Mix it with hot water and it should develop a nice consistency.  Don't put in too much water, otherwise it's watery and disgusting.  Powder is a lot better than the tablets.

Not sure about vegetable juices.  Follow Pagano's book.  He has a section about vegetable juices.

As for diet, just eat lots of salads, chicken, and fish (that he allows).

Do you take vitamin D? That is also helpful.

Thanks NYgirl appreciate your advice.
Re the powder, there are some sacrifices I am not willing to make and drinking that stuff is one of them.   ???

Thanks Eveloftus - will ad Vitamin D to the mix.

It's NYGUY!   :D

I didn't like the powder at first and now it tastes just fine to me.  But hey, do what you can.

Well I have been going about two weeks on the Pagano diet now and have noticed about a 30% improvement in my skin. (confirmed by my wife) Basically the inflamed look of my skin has mellowed from a heavy red to a light red. The itching has gone right down and my scalp feels a lot clearer.  I have a moderate case of P. Basically knees, on the calf of one leg, a small amount on my back (50c coin) scalp, belly button, behind and in my ears. Enough to not feel comfortable wearing shorts this summer and enough to want to try and clear my body of it as much as possible.
Changes I have made so far are as follows
I did the fruit diet for 3 days (which almost killed me)
Been having 2 slippery elm powder tablets every morning (800mg each),
2 Lecithin tablets (1.2g each)
1 Tablespoon of flaxseed oil
2  Fish oil tablets (2000 mg each) – but been having them for years.
At night I have added Chamomile tea with honey.
I have given up the red meat other than lamb – thank god for lamb! Night shades  - I do miss white potatoes. Drinking water with fresh lemon or lime as opposed to water with lemon or lime cordial which I am fine with. Water by itself I am not crazy about but lemon and lime makes it very drinkable.
Added celery, carrot and apple/orange juice to my daily diet which I really enjoy
Having a non wheat/non yeast bread which I think is a big help. It’s not the Gluten free bread which IMO is disgusting but probably the next best thing which I find very tasty – not putting yeast based spreads on my bread as well.
Never a big fried food eater although do like lollies and especially chocolate. Chocolate has been by big letdown. Going to try darker chocolate in smaller quantities.
Never did the colonic cleansing or chiropractic recommendation.
Overall I am feeling quite positive about it all accepting its early days.
Any further advice would be appreciated.
