... also there isn't just one set healthy diet for everybody ... because we are all so different & there is so much to take into consideration with possible allergies & also the poor quality of our 'healthy food'.

... I might thrive on rice but your system might not be able to tolerate it, so that so-called healthy food could be making you ill!

Jade,

I think over the years ive wreched my body with eating unhealthy food and stress, dont know where to start in trying to detox and cut out all the fat and additives.

I eat healthy during the day, but am weak when it comes to giving up chocolate and eating rubbish late at night, if I could find alternative healthy snacks that tasted as good as chocolate id be laughing.

Mary ... I am going to have to send you away on a healthy retreat for some pampering & tlc  ;)

I think with the diet, its a case of trying to get back to the basics with food & getting rid of all the un-needed extras.

As for alternatives to chocolate ...
celery? :-/ ;D
Some chocolate - like Green & Blacks - is better than others, as it is free from hydrogenated oils & lower in sugar. Darker chocolate is also healthier & cocoa is very good for you!
Although you could just sprinkle the raw cocoa powder onto dried fruit.
I have done that on raisins & its pretty good  ;)
Not exactly snicker bar style but we are getting there  ;D

There are quite a few healthy type bars you can get but not supermarket brands as these are usually loaded with sugar.
If you try a health shop - they often sell a range of healthy snacks - traidcraft do nice chewy bars, also village bakery & a few other companies.
Have you ever tried halva? Thats nice.

Jade,

I have never though of the healthy chocolate, I have heard of carob but dont know if that is any good. I did buy it out of a health food shop but it was a long time ago now.

At night I get cravings for chocolate and like sweets and crisps really, im like a big kid. probably eat as much now as I did then.

But I am going to stick with this and make an effort to rid my diet of the bad sugers and fats, for the sake of the children too. To think I was poisoning them with hydrogenated fats and aspartame and didnt realise it.

I have never tried the carob chocolate but I have used carob myself & its really nice. Its naturally quite sweet, and as it isn't as bitter as cocoa powder you don't really need a sweetner.
If you have a blender/food whizzer - a really nice guilt-free sweet, is to whizz up a few handfuls of nuts & dried fruit (dates are good - or sultanas/raisins) add a few spoons of carob powder, a tiny bit of oil or butter to moisten it & a couple of spoons of honey just to bring it all together.
Then whizz it all up, mould into balls & roll in carob/cocoa powder & pop in the fridge. Really chocolatey  8-)
We call them truffles  ;)
Good luck with the diet though ... its shows you are a good mum to make the effort.

Take care,
Jade xx

Mary,

Your body will crave the things that are bad. If you can go cold turkey on the chocolate for a few days your body will readjust and your cravings should calm down.
