A question for the chaps..
« on: January 24, 2012, 11:17:47 PM »
Hello everybody,

This is my first ever P post anywhere, and to be honest other than my parents and doctors, my first open discussion about it with anybody else!

I am a 22 year old student approaching graduation and have lived with P for 4 years. It started on my scalp and over the years it has developed into patches all over my body. If I'm honest I didn't (and to a certain extent still don't) let it bother me; its annoying and if anybody comments I tend to brush it off, but on the most part I had accepted it and not given it much thought.

That is until the last month or so. I'm having spots, blotches and indescribable itchiness in the "gentleman's department". Specifically scaly spots around the tip, with blotches lower down and in the folds. Everywhere else I don't care about slapping steroids and industrial strength creams about, but the thought of skin thinning etc. led me to the conclusion that it was a bad idea in this case. So two questions:

1) Is there anything specific that you boys use to calm things down, help ease things off in terms of itchiness and redness? I'm thinking stuff that is nice and safe to use down there with reckless abandon..

2) Unfortunately (or fortunately I suppose..) every so often I'm not the only person that sees this area of my body.. how on earth do I explain this - if I am correct in thinking that I am unlikely to get rid of it? Bit of an odd question I know, but I honestly don't know where to start explaining to her. I'm just wondering how you guys have dealt with it in the past!

Thanks in advance

Hi Spinningseal,

Firstly, has the problem in the "trouser department" actually been diagnosed as P? Because it could be a fungal infection, or something else.

So, before I give any other advice, get your doctor (GP) to refer you to a Derm for tests. Or take your self off to the local clinic for sexually transmitted diseases.

Regards,

Daryl

Hey Daryl,

Sorry, I should have mentioned this to start with. It has been checked out by the doctor and confirmed as P and I have been tested and am completely clean of all STDs. Unfortunately the doctor who saw it didn't give me a wealth of advice on the subject, though he did warn me of the use of steroid creams.

get the dr to refer you to a derm - sound like you need some light - if your not already trying a cleaner diet then I and other can help you out there to try and improve things in years to come - me for  i have never had it down there - on my ass but not genitals so sorry cannot help - can i just say those creams are an absolute waste of time.. when your ready to start a fresh and get rid of this then let us know..

Hi Spinningseal,

Firstly, I have never experienced a Derm who would recommend light treatment (Narrow band UVB) in that place. They will usually tell you to put it in a sock (these Derms must wear very small socks) to protect it from the light!!

I have had P in the mentioned place for about 40 years and was prescribed with various creams, some of which made the skin "peel". I wish that I had never experienced that and so it sounds as though your GP is giving good advice in that quarter - do NOT go down the steroid road.

Regular washing - just with water, may help. As will the application of moisturising gel.

Regarding existing, or future partners - you just have to be straight with them, and tell them what it is.

I hope that this helps, but I fear that it may not.

There is no magic wand that I know of.

Regards,

Daryl

Hey Steelem,

I'll ask the GP for a derm. By cleaner I suppose you mean no carbs, dairy, red meat and so on?

---

Daryl,

Thanks for the light tip - I agree, I'd be hesitant to let UVB anywhere near there.

I suppose I guessed as much in terms of the magic wand - Still, I'll see what the derm says anyway.
