A Treatment Regime that Seems to Help
« on: February 12, 2008, 05:49:27 PM »
Hi, just emailing to say - my partner has psoriasis, and after sifting through some internet stuff, we came up with a regime that seems to help keep it at bay.

1. Psoriasis cream prescribed, at times of day the doctor has instructed
2. Multivitamin supplements every morning after breakfast (ideally an umbrella multivitamin, definitely containing A, B vitamins, C, D and E)
3. Switch from cow's milk to goat's milk
4. A 'cooking oil concoction' replacing normal cooking oil.    20ml per day at most; each day's allocation containing 8ml sunflower oil, 4ml vegetable oil, 4ml olive oil, 2ml ground nut oil, 2ml corn oil and the oil from 2 fish oil capsules (containing multiple omega fatty acids)
5. Avoidance of citrus, hard cheese and vinegar
6. Avoidance of stress, possibly using a stress remedy - e.g. 'Bach's Rescue Pastilles'

A couple of other ideas that we found are to have a daily bath or shower using bath cream or shower gel that is targeted to helping soothe itchy skin conditions, for example, the brand 'E45'.  Another good idea is on very affected, dry, scaly skin, to soak it in water and gently scrape off as much excess skin as possible before applying prescribed cream and moisturiser - that means it gets to the area producing the extra cells the most.  Change of clothes each day helps as well, as does a daily (even short and done unprofessionally) massage. Hope these things help someone.  They're surprisingly easy to adopt, as most things can be bought at a supermarket, and many come instinctively anyway, I've found.

Hi Catherine

What kind of psoriasis cream do you mean?  There are many that are prescribed.

Parts of this regime are what I have been doing!
I am about 12 kg overweight and decided to go onto a meal replacement shake programme. In this case it's Herbalife [disclaimer: I am NOT a Herbalife distributor but heard a couple of good reports and went with them, although a bit expensive] and I bought a huge, I mean seriously huge container of fish oil capsules. Although the idea was to lose weight, to my surprise, and the doc. has confirmed this, my Psoriasis has lessened considerably - it's still in the same places like legs, lower back, elbows and a couple of spots on the side-chest - but the patches have shrunk and are not as raised or inflamed. I'm on Daivonex ointment (Dovonex) and at last it's having an opportunity to actually work!

My current programme:

One Herbalife multivitamin three times a day
Replace one or two meals with the basic vanilla shake plus their protein powder with some fruit (a peach or banana) blended in.
3 fish oil capsules twice a day
one Berocca (fizzy orange vitamin drink) with a dessertspoon of psyllium - for bowel 'fitness'  8)

One or two meals which are often curries based on veggies or chicken - I'm an absolutely brilliant Indian cook, a girl from Kenya taught me when I was younger. Example today I'll have potato and spinach saag with basmati rice. I've also got a chicken breast and mushroom on the go.

Apply Daivonex twice a day

I don't eat citrus as I have dental problems, and stay away from dairy apart from the odd Parmesan. I rarely eat wheat - my main grain is just rice. Also I try to get into the sun but even here in Australia (Queensland) it's amazing how difficult it can be to arrange an afternoon at the beach, believe it or not, also It's been POURING Down in Queensland ever since Christmas with whole towns going under like the British Midlands last year.  :-[

I think that the improvements could be due to the fish oil and the improved 'cellular' nutrition especially more B vitamins and trace minerals. The Herbalife Lady says it's all to do with the products, but then they would, wouldn't they  ;D

ps I have lost about 4 kg.

I posted this same message on another board before I had seen this one. I am always looking for ways to help relieve my p. Along with the routine below  I also take benedryl tab for the itches. Good morning from USA. I was reading your question about what to use on your scalp. I have lived with P since 1994 it comes and goes and every time it comes back its worse then before.
The absolute best thing that I have found for my body P is using dead sea salt. I use the bar soap as well as the dead sea salt scrub for the scales. At first its tingly sometime a stinging sensation however that instant of pain/shock is worth the final result. Its cleared mine up in a matter of a couple weeks of using it every other day. I also on a daily basis use oatmeal baths for no less than 20 min.  I do advise tho to get a rubber mat in the tub caue it can be slippery.  For my scalp which has been so bad that I have bald spots, scales that are so thick  that it makes parts of my hair stand up. The treatment I use for my scalp is a product called Motions, hair an scalp daily mousturizing hairdressing. Its a 6oz tub. I found it in any beauty supply store or local drug store. Btw, it in the ethnic (black) section. Its extremely greasy but it penetrates through the scales an I use a lice comb to remove the scales. I leave it in overnight and then wash my hair with TGel hair shampoo.  After my baths I use Therapueutic Moisturzing cream  not just body lotion cause that doesnt have the thickness like paste. Its been an absolute heaven sent.  I also was using a tanning bed for 10 min every day. The light from that goes below your top layer of skin to kill the p. Yes it works the only drawback is that if you have it severe like I do wherever the p was it leaves like a white area. Btw, I am also 75% of my body has had p.  These are the treatments that I have used. The steriods I had taken from the derm dr's had not only made my hair fall out in clumps but also thinned my skin to the poin that you rub it and my skin peeled. NO THANKYOU. It has taken me like I said sine 1994 to find a product or two that worked for me.  I swear by my treatment and thought I would share.
My struggle now, my back is red from the p. I wish to find a way to make he redness go away.
