Akamuti
« on: April 18, 2005, 11:53:05 PM »
I read somewhere on the forum (can't find the thread in search thingy) that somebody uses shea butter from a company called You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login. I emailed them to ask what they recommend to use on eczema and psoriasis (I suffer from both hmph) and here is their answer:

Our unrefined shea butter has had some fantastic feedback on skin conditions such as eczema.
( You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login ) The pure shea butter can be applied direct to the skin - it is intensely moisturising, perfect where the skin is dry & cracked.  It seems that a lot of skin problems can be rooted in a deficiency of vitamins within the skin. Unrefined shea butter is piping with tree nutrients & research has shown how that regular use of shea butter can even eliminate eczema & psoraisis in some individuals.

The African Black Soap we sell is made with a high percentage of shea butter & as a result is immensely moisturising. African people use Black Soap for skin problems including rashes, eczema, and as a natural shampoo on dry, damaged hair & itchy scalps...

If you have 'weepy' eczema/psoraisis, your skin would benefit from a cleansing wash first. We sell distilled organic chamomile & lavender washes which are great for red, angry, pussy skin & also soothing on itchy patches. ( You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login )

Psoraisis is often harder than eczema to treat externally.
I actually have some psoraisis myself  &  I can certainly recommend the shea butter because it is so nourishing & softening on the flaky skin, drastically relieving inflammation & dryness.
Another good product I have found, is organic hemp oil, just dabbed straight onto the patches. Hemp Oil is a powerful healer on the skin & is of particular benefit to chronic skin conditions, like eczema & psoraisis - you can read more about it here.

Ultimate skin healing is from the inside out...It's worth bearing in mind that a build up of toxins (which can come from food, environmental pollutants or stress hormones) will come out as problem skin. From personal experience, diet dramatically controls the outbreaks of psoraisis.  I think this approach is immensely important if you are trying to eradicate a condition holistically.
The cause of psoraisis is often rooted in the liver - so supporting this organ & preventing it from getting stressed out is the key to healing the skin. (The liver is stressed out by sugar, alcohol & over fatty processed foods) I also supplement a healthy diet with herbal teas - such as cleaver & pau d'Arco, which cleanse the liver, blood & ultimately the skin.  We sell loose herbs on the  herbs & flowers  section, if you were interested.

I've ordered some unrefined virgin shea butter and some pau d'arco cream which is apparently good to stop the itching. Will let you know how I go  :)

The shea butter clears my nasty, itchy, red and crusty eczema up and has helped managed my psoriasis. It certainly helps!
