Allergy Testing
« on: October 27, 2004, 01:41:24 PM »
Thank you to whoever mentioned the allergy tests you can get from York Labs.  I have had this done and have found I am allergic to several things, including Wheat.  For some reason I had never even suspected this so I am now off to find out more about cutting it out of my diet.

Saffy.

I know quite a few people who have had this done and everyone I know has been told they are allergic to wheat. Is it just that they have problems and get checked or are  they telling everyone that they are allergic to wheat.

I suspect its just that you wouldn't get tested unless you had a problem and wheat must be one of the most problem foods.

I think you mean food intolerance.
An allergy can be life threatening! :)

Hi i think it was me and your welcome.

Yorktest is  regarded as THE most accurate private test. It is recommended by the Allergy Association in the UK.

Most common intolerances are
wheat, milk, soy,

if you got wheat, rye, gluten on your results(or two of those) I would insist on getting tested for celiacs.

It was an allergy test I got, not a food intollerance test.  Most of the allergens that were tested for were the inhaled king, but they also test for various foods.  Not all allergies are life threatening - after all, hayfever is an allergy and isn't life threatening.

Allergic reactions can be minor to massive. In some cases Hay Fever can be life threatening.

my understanding

in the case of food then billie is correct an intolerance can effect the optimal operation of the body but an allergy tends to have more serious consequences (celiac is an allergy as are some very serious forms of peanut allergies).

but the term allergy is also used to for airborn and skin problems and has a far broader spectrum of meaning/consequence in those fields.

when people say they have a food allergy they usually mean intolerance, but hayfever is an allergy.

Yeah, I know I thought similar so it was interesting when to the see the results of both my husband and myself. My husband has p and I don't. His came back with lots of things, including milk, yeast, sesame, soya, haricot beans, and coffee. Mine only came back with milk, and I have to rotate yeast.

The reason a lot of people come out with milk, yeast and wheat is because that is our staple diet in the western world. Most people have some every day so that's how people can develop intolerances. If we rotated our food more we probably wouldn't develop the intolerances.

When I have milk I just get bloated. But I guess because my husband has so many intolerances, there's something in his body not working properly (eg. liver/digestive system etc) which is why it's coming out in his skin. So we can help his body by not putting those things in it which he can't digest properly.. now we just have to figure out how to heal the part that's not working.
