aloe vera
« on: January 20, 2010, 10:33:29 AM »
yesterday i ran out of cream for my psoriasis and it was very red inflamed and it itched pretty bad.
So i brought some aloe vera vassaline cream an before i went to bed i spread it all over my arms and hands
and when i woke up this morning even when my skin was dry there where hardly any flakey skin
the redness of my skin went down by 50% and it skin looks and feels a lot better.

I used it on my side today and my shoulders and its helping a lot.

Only down side is that its £4 a bottle but for me its worked better then anything iv ever tried.
I just was looking on google and it says that aloe vera could help psoriasis sufferers and its been used for many years for sun burn and insect bits and such it has a very intense cooling effect
and i notice when i put it on its sooo cold but it works for me.

I hope that this helps others too.
I think it can be any aloe vera cream i find the vassaline is very thin and watery which helps to absorbe in to your skin.

If this helps clear my psoriasis up then i will be very happy.

If i use this and my dead sea salt im conifdent that my skin will be so much better.
If tried everything that the doctor had given me and some of it made my skin worse. I am just glad i found aloe vera.

Glad you are having some success with Aloe Vera Kentguy;  there is a juice of aloe vera which some people say has helped various medical conditions including psoriasis.  You can get this at your local health-store and the higher the concentrate of aloe vera obviously the better.  I've tried it with no real success but as with many of those alternatives, I think changing one's diet to a healthy eating plan and staying away from triggers which for me include chocolate, alcohol, tomatoes - all the things I love, is another key to managing P.

I have a few plants of aloe vera here and have tried it in its pure form on my P., it hasn't worked sadly.

Hi KentGuy,

can you name the aloe vera product please...it sounds interesting.

i have tried the aloe gell from holland and barett before, but sadly it didnt
help my P much. I found it very sticky and seemed to dry my skin, or kinda
seal it, rather than moisturise.

Babyblue - that aloe vera juice...boy if its anything like the ones they sell to drink
at H&B its one of the most disgusting things i have ever tasted! yuk!!!
I tried the flavoured ones too...just as bad. Didnt drink enough to be able to say
wether it helped the P or not. Some folks swear by it. I personally would rather
drink Cod liver oil...and thats bad. :)

Like you say - a healthy diet is the way to go.

cheers

T

Hi Kentguy - just wondering if you were using a moisturiser before the aloe vera vaseline or just the cream from the doc.  I have found that moisturising (with whatever suits or you like - even simple aqueous cream) is essential even when using prescribed creams from the doc.  In fact sometimes I find stopping the prescribed creams and just moisturising 2-3 times a day really improves things.

Hey guys im just using Aloe Fresh from Vaseline which you can get at tesco or boots or many high street shops It body lotion with Aloe & Cucumber it is very thin and absorbs fast.
I got some from town yesterday.

I was using cream from the doctors but it was making my skin far worse and sore.

So in despiration i brought some of the aloe fresh
which has aloe vera in it and i put it on my arms just to test it out and by morning all the redness has gone and the flakey scales has been reduced alot.

Its the only thing that had worked well for me.

I got to get some more tomorrow iv nearly run out.

But if i go through a bottle of it every two days then i need 3 bottles a week and at £4 a bottle thats £12
i would say my skin will be clear in a weeks time if i keep this up with the Aloe fresh

It looks like this

Im not sure if itws the aloe vera in it or the cucumber or both but its helped my skin feel better in 24 hours and nothing that i have ever tried has worked like this does.I dont know if it will work for everyone but it works for me.

They do it in 400ml bottles and the one i get is Aloe fresh Hydrating and it works wonders

Thanks for advice Kent, for many of us, finding products that help is via trial and error.  However there is a company close to where I live that claims success by both drinking the juice of Aloe Vera and using the products they sell, which they claim are natural.  I have enquired and have read testimonials on site with regard to P - but I am a 'doubting Thomas' where any such claims are concerned.  If someone on our PHO site used the products and could confirm directly that they worked to maintain healthy skin or at least control P,  that's an entirely different matter.

The site for your information is You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login ... I'm not suggesting you buy them but as you appear to have pretty good results with Vaseline products which use a reduced concentrate of aloe vera, you may be interested in making your own enquiries via email.

Am glad you're having some relief.

Wishing you continued success

Thanks for the website. For the moment i brought 6 bottles of the aloe fresh today as sainsburys had it on offer 3 bottles costs me £8.16 instead of £12 so i thought i would buy as many as i could carry
as im only having to use the lotion 2 times a day now since my skin is much much better.

I combined that with a dead sea salt bath last night and its made a big difference.
I have a appointment with a dermatologist in march but i hope byt hen it would have cleared up fully. There is one more treatment i plan to try for my p it safely supresses the immunue system and is said to be good for p and inflamtions of the skin. I cant say what it is for legal reasons but when i used it for p in the past it helped keep it under control.

I would say the dead sea salt and then aloe alone would make a big difference to some p sufferes.
I just fear that i will become immune to these only two treatments that have worked for me.
My doctor wants me to try coal tar cream next week but i kinda gave up on coal tar.

I found more info on aloe

Only down side is that its £4 a bottle

Buy yourself an aloe vera plant instead.

They don’t need any maintenance apart from the odd water. In fact, I put my plant in the garden and mother nature takes care of everything.

And they propagate like crazy.

This looks like a pretty comprehensive guide:

I brought a single plant ten years ago for $5.00, and it and its offspring are still going strong.

Must confess Kentguy, since I started reading of your success I bought that Vaseline Aloe Vera moisturiser and found it helpful; eases the redness as you said.  I've tried pure aloe vera - from the plant in the past .. but it's not helped, but I will give that another try as well.

I'm with you on trying to heal naturally; when I attended a herbalist two years ago, he remarked that the skin is the last place we see an improvement as healing starts internally when successful.

I'm intrigued about the other treatment which suppresses the immune system .. and that you cannot reveal for legal reasons .. is this widely known .. ?

Anyway good luck with your alternative treatment; glad you're having success.

I hope the aloe helps you as much as it has done for me. I will try aloe vera in oral form too they say that helps. My skin just from Aloe fresh has helped so much.

The alternative i am going to try as i said i cant name it for legal reasons in some countrys its legal but not in the united kingdom. I believe its ok in certain states of america like calafornia and oregan.
Its a natural plant which is used for treatments like arthritis through to inflamation of the skin and also Multiple sclerosis which infact i believe is a immune disorder where the immune system is speeded up
and since psoriasis is effected by the immunue system in the same kinda way
thats why the treatment works.

I have some and have taken it in the past and iv noticed a difference. But nothing that iv taken out does the aloe.

I used aloe in the past before my p got this bad. I used it just for my hands because my hands got extremely dry. I just thought it was another moisturizer and thought nothing of it
but when p spread through out my body to my stomac my shoulders back, arms , legs and neck
i went to the doctors he gave me treatment after treatment
the last set of treatments made my p worse he gave me tar bath soaks and i foudn it made the sales on my p come back fast and i felt red and sore.

So as a last resort i went in to town to find some cheap moisutrizer and i went to savers and found the vaseline aloe and i used it for a day and within that day it had healed what damage the tar did to my skin.

It does not itch as much and when it does i put Aloe on it and it calms down.
I wrote to Vaseline today and thanked them for their lotion and told them how much its helped my skin.

I want to grow my own aloe and i was looking in to that today. Thank you for the info on growing it.
I think i will grow it indoors under a growlux tube which should make it through fast.
I believe aloe needs to keep dry out of the rain and cold "not too sure"

But anyways i will keep you guys updated.
